Pacquiao spar mates to get $1,500 bonus
In the next few weeks of Manny Pacquiao’s training, his sparring partners are expected to put their best foot forward every time they are called in to trade blows with the Filipino icon who is revving up for a Nov. 24 clash with Brandon Rios in Macau.
Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser Mike Koncz said a bonus of $1,500 will go to the spar mate who succeeds in sending Pacquiao to the floor.
The amount is considerably higher than the previous $1,000 that Team Pacquiao had promised many sparring partners.
Ever since lead trainer Freddie Roach started dangling the offer to Pacquiao’s spar mates years ago, nobody has won the prize.
From Ray Beltran to Shawn Porter and Amir Khan and Ruslan Provodnikov, Pacquiao has been able to stand his ground even during the most vicious of sparring sessions in Baguio and at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, allowing Roach to keep his cash intact.
As Pacquiao enters the most crucial phase of his buildup, Koncz has upped the ante by putting an additional $500 to the already-mouth-watering challenge.
Koncz told unbeaten Ghana puncher Fredrick Lawson that if he scores a knockdown during his sparring with Pacquiao in the coming days and weeks, he will not hesitate to give him $1,500.
Lawson arrived in the country over the weekend and is aching to get his hands on Pacquiao.
