PLDT Gabay Guro begins 2014 with donations, Regine’s tribute song for teachers

The prime movers behind PLDT’s Gabay Guro begin 2014 with more charity works benefiting teachers and students nationwide, including the rehabilitation of schools and classrooms in provinces that have been ravaged by typhoon “Yolanda.”

This gives special meaning and purpose to the cause each and every volunteer behind Gabay Guro has taken the cudgels for. The same cause gives more depth to the PLDT Gabay Guro tribute song “Believing In Me,” written by the husband and wife tandem of Raul and Cacai Mitra and sung by Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.

Launched just before Christmas during a tribute event at the SM Mall of Asia Arena attended by about 30,000 teachers from all over the country, the song was recorded and performed for free by Regine as her gift to the teachers. A video of Regine dedicating the song to the teachers kicked off the ceremonies.

Regine goes back to the Arena on Feb. 14 as she mounts a Valentine concert together with her friend, Concert King Martin Nievera.

“Believing In Me” is officially PLDT Gabay Guro’s tribute song to all Filipino teachers. Gabay Guro Chairman and 2013 Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardee Chaye Cabal-Revilla said they are truly touched by the gesture of Regine, Raul and Cacai. “It is really so nice of them to accommodate us with this beautiful song. It sums up pretty much all we have to say about our teachers,” she said.

Chaye, who spearheads all the Gabay Guro activities nationwide, happily reports that they are still conducting numerous ongoing projects in other provinces. Gabay Guro donated several classrooms in the earthquake-ravaged Bohol last December. They also offered a mini-tribute concert to over 5,000 teachers there in an event called “Pahalipay Sa Bohol.” Soon, the group will be flying to Leyte where they will be donating eight classrooms to Tacloban City and Palo.

PLDT Gabay Guro, an education arm and a flagship project of PLDT-Smart Foundation, is run by volunteers composed of executives from PLDT Manager’s Club Inc. (PLDT MCI). The program is defined by its pillars: Scholarships, Trainings, Housing and Educational Facilities, Livelihood Programs, Broadbanding and Computerization and Teacher’s Tribute. To date, PLDT Gabay Guro has given scholarship grants to over 700 students nationwide, while over 10,000 teachers have benefited from its free training programs.

Chaye, supported wholeheartedly by PLDT Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, said she has given instructions to speed up building and rehabilitation of classrooms so they can move on to the next province and share the blessings to more of our kababayans.
