Pope Francis to visit Philippines in 2015
Pope Francis announced on Monday his plan to visit the Philippines next year, Catholic News Service (CNS) reported.
The Pope made the announcement during an in-flight news conference en route to Rome following his three-day visit to the Holy Land over the weekend.
According to report, Pope Francis would visit the Catholic-dominated Philippines in January 2015, but gave no exact details on the activities he plans to make. He would also visit Sri Lanka in the same month next year, it added.
It is the first direct announcement the Pope made regarding his plan visit the country.
The Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines has earlier reported that the Holy See may attend the International Eucharistic Congress in Cebu after he asked its organizers to reschedule the activity from May 2016 to January 25 to 31, 2016.
If it pushes through, it will be the first time that the head of the 1.2-billion strong Roman Catholic Church will visit the Philippines nearly two decades since the last visit of late Pope John Paul II.
