KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) – Aklan province has made a move to empower heads of the province’s senior citizens federation and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) by making them undergo a capability building training.
The two-day training was held at the Gov. Corazon L. Cabagnot Memorial Tourism and Training Center (GCLCMTTC) with 17 presidents of the Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (FSCAP) and 17 heads of OSCAS in the province.
UEP lass is Ms. National SCUAA
CATARMAN, Northern Samar – Jem Francelle Lucero Sanico of the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) here won the title of Miss National State Colleges University Athletic Association (SCUAA), besting 20 candidates from 16 regions.
Mar P. De Asis, President of the University of Eastern Philippines, said “Ms. Sanico gave UEP, Northern Samar and our region great honor and pride.” He said Dr. Felisa L. Sanico, mother of Jem and the UEP Vice President for Academic Affairs, had informed him that the Ms. National SCUAA competition went through a series of elimination rounds, selecting first the top 10 contestants and then the top five, before finally choosing the Ms. National SCUAA, which culminated in a pageant. Cebu City Hall to reduce summer jobs
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) – Cebu City Hall will hire 300 students only for its summer job program this year, a drastic cut from the 2,200 students it hired last year.
The city also reduced the budget for the implementation of the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) from P11 million last year, an election year, to only P1.8 million this year.
City Hall, however, increased the daily salary of the beneficiaries to P300 from last year’s P267 as specified in the project proposal of the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) for this year’s SPES.
P63-M Jamindan bridge inaugurated
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – Turnover and inauguration of a P63-million bridge recently in Barangay Pangabat in Jamindan town is expected to facilitate travel and transport of products of people in this area to markets.
Pangabat Punong Barangay Lino Calixterio said the bridge will be a great help to his constituents and residents of neighboring barangays because it shortens the time in bringing their products to the market.
During said bridge turnover, Capiz 2nd district Rep. Jane T. Castro thanked Jamindan Mayor Ethel Jinon for facilitating requirements like the deed of donation and right of way, among others, for the project.
First Capiz quake drill set
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – Preparations are being set up by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) in Capiz for the first earthquake drill in a hospital on March 11 here.
PHIVOLCS Provincial Head Ramil Atando said Saint Anthony College Hospital (SACH) will be the setting of the forthcoming rehearsal of life saving evacuation plans for strong earthquakes.
“I will suggest during a preparatory meeting with SACH management if we could possibly include some patients during the drill,” he said, adding that disaster preparedness exercise are meant to educate and help hospital administrators on how to respond before, during and after the tremor.
