DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Department of Tourism (DoT) will train tour guides in the province to address the scarcity of DoT-accredited tourist guides in Negros Oriental.
Records show there are only seven DoT-accredited tour guides in the province.
The training will run May 9 to June 4, 2011 at the Sidlakan Village Conference Hall here. Trainors will come from the DoT regional office in Cebu City.
The Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) is asking interested college graduates of any age with know-how in the local tourism industry to join the 24-day training.Applicants must submit to the PTO the accomplished application forms.
Italy-based Ilonggos aid poor Bacolod students

Spearheaded by the management of the Italy-based Kabayan Times International newspaper, with circulation in European countries through its marketing arm, the Marketing Consultancy Events Management (MCEM), the fund-raising endeavor will be a BINGO FOR A CAUSE, on April 24, 2011, at the Teatro del Arte,via Degli Olivatani 5, in Milan, Italy. Pact vs women trafficking signed
ILOILO CITY, ILOILO — Karaoke bar operators, restaurants, massage parlors, spas, and similar establishments in Iloilo will be required to attend a seminar on trafficking of persons before their they can be issued a new or renewed business license.
The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on this ruling was signed Tuesday by Police Chief Sup. Cirpiano Querol, Jr., regional director of Police Regional Office (PRO) 6, and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor.
The MOA will serve as coordinating efforts between PRO 6 and the Iloilo government in regulating hiring of women and children to work in karaoke bars, restaurants, massage parlors, spas and similar establishments. (Edith B. Colmo)
Cadiz hospital gets new facilities
CADIZ CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — The Cadiz City District Hospital has just been given additional facilities by the provincial government with Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. leading the blessing and inauguration of the newly-renovated 10-bed capacity emergency room, X-ray and ultrasound rooms and doctor’s quarter at the Cadiz District Hospital in Cadiz City last week.
The activity started with a mass officiated by Fr. Carlos dela Paz followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing of the new structures.
Negros farmers, fishermen to be honored
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — Farmers and fisherfolk here will be honored at the Farmers and Fisherfolk Achievers Day titled “Pasidungog sa Mangunguma kag Mangingisda sa Panaad” on April 9, 2011 at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
The event, which falls on the last day of the six-day Panaad sa Negros Festival will recognize the important contributions of farmers and fisherfolks on food production and in helping realize the Food Security Program of the Provincial Government headed by Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr.
