DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Philippines (PNA) — The plan to revive the Task Force Newsman in Negros Oriental is considered a welcome development for Dumaguete media members.
This is part of efforts by the Philippine National Police to create a separate desk for cases involving members of media. Sr. Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, provincial director of the Philippine National Police of Negros Oriental said no record of media killings or media involved in life-threatening situations has ever been recorded in the police blotter here but threats have been made against some media personalities here which need to be looked into.
Iloilo has no rice shortage
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The National Food Authority (NFA) here has assured consumers of sufficient rice supply enough for 146 days as of its latest inventory.
NFA-Iloilo assistant provincial manager Miguel Aguirre said as of Friday, NFA has 691,910 bags of rice at 50 kilograms per bag that would last for 37 days.
Including those in households, commercial warehouses and retailers the supply could run up to 2,742,021 bags of rice enough for 146 days, he said.
According to Aguirre, NFA is mandated to at least have a buffer stock good for 25-30 days, and based on the available data Iloilo has more than the required buffer stock.
Alternative Learning System
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — At least 75 city hall employees here who want to pursue their studies were identified for enrollment in an education program offered through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education (DepEd).
”The learners will be allowed to participate in the lecture four to five hours every week, with learning hours scheduled at their respective offices,” said a message posted in the “Maasin City in Action” vernacular newsletter.
LTO 8 to implement Oplan Mahal na Araw
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The DoTC-Regional Management Council (RMC) will again implement Oplan Mahal na Araw under the DoTC Oplan Kalakbay this Holy Week, from April 20 to 24.
Land Transportation Office (LTO) Help Desks will be set up in strategic locations around the region to assist the traveling public going home to their respective provinces for the Holy Week.
Stationary and roving LTO Regional Law Enforcers and Field Enforcement Teams will be on duty in bus terminals in Tacloban City and DoTC Help Desks in strategic locations, particularly in the different transport terminals will be fully activated during the entire Holy Week.
Seniors apply for Social Pension
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — Some 129 indigent senior citizens in Bacolod City have applied for Social Pensioner status, per Republic Act 9994.
The Social Pension aims to protect the senior citizens from hunger, neglect, abuse and deprivation.
Republic Act 9994 states that indigent senior citizens shall receive a ₱500 monthly pension to augment their daily subsistence and other medical needs, provided they qualify with Department of Social Welfare and Development requirements.
