ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) — A store selling ready-to-wear (RTW) products and cellular phone units along Arnaldo Boulevard this city was padlocked by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) – Revenue District Office (RDO) as part of the BIR’s Oplan Kandado campaign last Tuesday.
The establishment was padlocked after the owner failed to comply with revenue laws under the campaign.
BIR Regional Office's Legal Division chief lawyer Yanson Chin and Revenue District Officer Gil Tabanda led the implementation of the closure order. The closure, however, may only be temporary as the store can resume its operations upon the settlement of its obligations, Tabanda said.
Cebu women screened
CEBU (PIA) — Three hundred forty-nine (349) women benefited from breast and cervical cancer screening activities held at the Cebu City Medical Center, Cordova town, cities of Mandaue and Naga during the Women’s month celebration last March.
The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.; with the Cebu City Medical Center, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) OB-GYNE Department, VSMMC Breast Clinic, Integrated Midwives Association of Philippines-Cebu Midwives Clinic, Lihok Pilipina Foundation, and Destiny Medical Fund Inc. organized the series of screening activities.
Before the screening procedure, the organizers had forums on breast and cervical cancer as an interpersonal communication advocacy on the disease.
Jakosalem day festivities set
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Dumanjug in Cebu will celebrate the first Don Dionisio A. Jakosalem Day with programs and activities lined up on July 1.
The celebration recognizes and honors the late Don Dionisio A. Jakosalem, the first Filipino, first Cebuano and first Dumanjuganon to be appointed Secretary of Commerce and Communications during the American regime.
He was also first Cebu province governor. The Sangguniang Bayan of Dumanjug has passed an ordinance declarin July 1, 2011 and every year thereafter as Don Dionisio Abella Jakosalem Day.
Police your own ranks — Degamo
DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA) — Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo today challenged 78 cops in the Dumaguete City Police Office who completed a week’s long back-to-basics training to "police their own ranks."
Degamo lauded the Philippine National Police for conducting refresher courses for policemen and cited the need for the police force to keep up with the times and the changing technology in fighting crime.
"With the advent of the new technology, criminals are also getting 'high-tech' with their methods so we need to upgrade ourselves in the form of training," said Degamo.
Church heritage convention
TACLOBAN CITY Leyte, PIA) – The Archdiocese of Palo will host the 7th Biennial National Convention of Church Cultural Heritage Workers and Practitioners May 9 to 12.
The undertaking is under the Permanent Committee for the Cultural Heritage of the Church of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
Some 100 delegates from different archdiocese/dioceses, parish commission heads and committee members for church cultural heritage are expected to attend. The convention is open to curators, heritage advocates, and students, among others.
