San Francisco’s Purok System in mobilizing local resources to address the vulnerability of its barangays was cited by government and non-government organizations and the UN as “very innovative” in creating local and practical solutions based on the communities’ unique needs.
Soldiers build N.O.H.S. facility
DUMAGUETE CITY, April 23 (PIA) --The Philippine Army’s 302nd Brigade has turned over a newly completed study area to faculty members of Negros Oriental High School (NOHS).
The soldiers built the study area for students in said school here through the “Bayanihan” concept along with members of the NOHS Batch ’94 who provided materials and manpower and the Alpha Company of Army’s 12 Infantry Battalion also assisted the construction of the project.
Construction began last March 27 and was finished and turned over to the NOHS on April 16.
H.S. valedictorians in trainig
CEBU (PIA) — Secondary public schools valedictorians in the Department of Education division in Cebu and component cities Bogo, Carcar, Danao, Lapu-lapu, Mandaue, Naga, Talisay and Toledo will have a two-day leadership training starting today till April 27 at the DepEd Ecotech Center in Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.
This is a yearly joint activity by the DepEd -7 and Cebu province to equip top students in Cebu with leadership skills and prepare them for tough academic challenges ahead. DepEd-7 will handle transportation and incidental expenses of participants while Cebu province will pay for their accommodation, meals and other expenses incurred during the training.
P.I.C. renewal in Aklan
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — Teachers and other professionals in Aklan province no longer need to go to Iloilo City to renew their Professional Identification Cards (PICs) as the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) will be bringing this service right here in the capital city, Kalibo on today, April 25 and tomorrow, April 26 as part of the PRC’s “On-The-Road” program.
Processing will be at the Function Hall of Garcia College of Technology (GCT) in Kalibo from 8:00 – 5:00 p.m., April 25-26. The PRC will also be processing applications for the July 2011 Licensure Examination for Nurses with deadline for first takers on May 13, 2011; Rad Tech and Xray Tech exams, with deadline on May 18, 2011; and for Social Workers with deadline on June 1, 2011.

BORONGAN, Eastern Samar, (PIA) Some 45 athletes from the province are competing in the Palarong Pambansa 2011 in Dapitan City, according to the Department of Education Division Superintendent Bernardo Adina who also said that in the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA ) meet recently held in Calbayog City, Eastern Samar Division placed second in the over-all team standing.
The national athletic meet will start May 8 till May 14.
