CEBU — The Provincial Government of Cebu is willing to provide assistance and share experience to other provinces and local government units that would wish to follow the successful tourism program, Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbu.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said she has heard of a number of provinces that wish to follow what the provincial government has been able to do in Cebu with the Suroy-Suroy.
"We have always been very willing to extend assistance, to share our experience and knowledge that we have gained through all these years of conducting the Suroy-Suroy," she said. (Mars Mosqueda Jr.)
Iloilo transport holiday
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here will deploy vehicles to strategic areas in this city to serve its employees and accommodate other stranded commuters as preparation for the two-day transport holiday that will kick off here May 2.
DPWH 6 regional director Evelyn T. Barroso has authorized the provision of 14 vehicles during the two-day strike with corresponding route assignments.
These include a Mitsubishi L-200 pick up with plate number SFK-736 and Isuzu KC-20 (SCC-937) that will accommodate passengers from Jaro and Lapaz plaza with the former passing Luna St. and the latter the Commission Civil Street.
New Guimaras D.S.W.D. youth head
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — A residential facility for disadvantaged youth and children in conflict with the law managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has a new head.
On Tuesday, DSWD-6 Regional Director Minda Brigoli installed Social Welfare Officer III Julian Ledesma as head of the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) based in Guimaras province.
Ledesma assumed the post after the former center head Rosario A. Silla retired from government service on April 22.
Ilongga student wins award
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — Jinnah Mae Villanueva, a graduating pupil of SPED (Special Education)-Integrated School for Exceptional Children in Iloilo City was awarded as the “Outstanding Journalist of the Philippines” after she won first place in the Filipino editorial writing, besting 50 contestants in the National Schools Press Conference held in Butuan City recently. Villanueva’s mother, Sofia, who is a teacher, served as coach to her 13-year-old daughter.
New Boracay police chief
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — The Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office (BSPO) has a new police chief in the person of Supt. Samuel C. Nacion who formally assumed his post effective Wednesday, April 27.
Nacion replaced Supt. Rolando T. Villar who was designated as deputy provincial director for administrations of the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO). Prior to his assignment in Boracay, Nacion was the APPO deputy provincial police director for administration for almost a year.
APPO acting police director Senior Supt. Cornelio Defensor said the assignment of Nacion is part of a regular movement of officers with marching order to secure the island.
