ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines (PIA) - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) 6 has assured that it will monitor the proper implementation of tuition fee hikes imposed by some schools this school year. Classes begin June 6.
CHED 6 Chief Education Program Specialist Dr. Rex Casiple said 70 percent of the increase should go to salaries and benefits of faculty and staff, 20 percent to improving physical facilities and 10 percent to divert back to the school administration for other purposes.
Some 20 colleges and universities in the region intend to hike tuition fees. Overall, the average rate of increase being asked is 8.4 percent.
Video contest on Negros Occidental
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines (PIA) - The Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Management Office will launch an environmental advocacy video contest as part of the province’s 19th Provincial Environment Week Celebration June 19 to 25.
The video contest is open to all Filipinos, individuals or groups based or in Negros Occidental.
Entries in DVD format must have an environmental theme, and may be in any genre like animation, musical, MTV, narrative, stills or a combination of genre and will preferably be in Ilonggo or mixed Ionggo and English, with subtitles.
Registration at PEMO office, 49 North Capitol Road, Bacolod City is ongoing until June 10; judging will be on June 21.
K+12 pre-school classes end June
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) – Some 10,441 five-year-old kids will end their pre-school summer classes June 3, said Capiz Schools Division Supt., Dr. Eveleth Gamboa. Said summer classes are in preparation for the implementation of government’s K+12 enhanced basic education program when classes open this June.
With some 10,000 pre-schoolers in Capiz this school year, the province needs at least 200 pre-school teachers to handle classes. “At present we only have 18 permanent pre-school teachers,” said Gamboa.
Pantawid pamilya not for food
CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines (PIA) - Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 program information and advocacy officer Aileen Lariba informed all those concerned that “the financial assistance given to poor families under the ‘Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino’ Program is to augment their needs on health and education and is not a dole-out for their food consumption.” Lariba said recipients of government’s poverty-alleviation program underwent a rigorous process and no politics was involved in the selection of beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries in the region rose from under 50,000 in 2010 to 148,000 to 2011.
PIA 8 good news seminar
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines (PIA) – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Eastern Visayas is set to conduct another seminar to further enhance the ability of public information officers in communicating to communicate what government is doing in terms of nation building.
Dubbed as “Do the Drill Part II: Communicating the Gospel of Good Governance through Effective Media Productions,” the training will be conducted May 23 to 24 at the SMED Building, Provincial Capitol Grounds, Tacloban City.
