TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Rolando M. Asis has mandated district engineers in Region 8 to take measures to ensure “zero” fatality as Eastern Visayas braces for tropical storm Chedeng.
A dozen district offices here have been asked to monitor whole day the situation in their areas and undertake precautionary measures especially in flood/landslide-prone areas.

Pree bureau goes on tour
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) – An educational trip to various media outlets in Iloilo City was conducted by the Capiz Provincial Press Bureau (CPPB) staff recently to further enhance its multi-media approaches and strategies in information dissemination.
The tour included a visit to GMA TV – 6, DYFM Bombo Radyo – Iloilo, Panay News and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Regional Office 6 with the CPPB staff learning proper protocol in conducting press conferences and quality news item preparation from PIA and Panay News, respectively.
'Operation blessing'
SAN JOSE, Antique, Philippines (PIA) – Disabled persons in San Jose, Antique were beneficiaries of a medical outreach services rendered by "Operation Blessing," a non-profit humanitarian organization covering the country and other parts of Asia.
Nancy Tejares, Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) coordinator of San Jose de Buenavista said a team from the group was here recently to conduct home visits to persons with disability (PWD) including those with mobility disability to get measurements for wheelchairs.
Convention center needed in Bohol
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Philippines (PIA) – Bohol needs a convention center that can accommodatenational events to help sustain its image as a tourist destination.
Provincial Tourism Council (PTC) Chairman Atty. Lucas Nunag said the PTC has passed a resolution last Wednesday asking the provincial government to construct a convention facility accommodating some 10,000 attendees.
He said this is one of the “missing links” in the tourism marketing tool of the province even as he confirmedthat several organizations have, in the past, nixed including Bohol as a choice for national events because there is no venue here that that can accommodate from 5,000 to 10,000 delegates.
B.N.S. Congress set in Tacloban
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines (PIA) – A barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) congress is set to be held at the astrodome here, with guests to include Rep. Lucy Torres and husband, actor Richard Gomez. The region’s 4,000 barangays are expected to send their BNS to this event.
This year’s nutrition month theme states, “Isulong ang breastfeeding, tama, sapat, at eksklusibo.” Said BNS Congress will be the first-ever coming together of BNS members throughout the whole region of Eastern Visayas.
