DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines (PNA) — Negros Oriental Philippine National Police (PNP) provincial director Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas recently signed an agreement with the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) for the Enhancement and Development Program for the Tourist Police.
Around 60 police officers from different police stations in Negros Oriental will attend classes every Saturday at the NORSU main campus here. They are now enrolled under the Tourism and Hospitality Management course at NORSU.
Free e-jeeps' ride in Iloilo
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — Eight units of electronic jeeps will be back on city streets by Monday to serve for free the riding needs of public elementary school pupils and seniors citizens of this southern city.
This was announced by Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III, who is currently the officer-in-charge of the city mayor’s office, saying the city government deemed it a good public service to public school children and senior citizens.
Espinosa said the Division of City Schools here estimated a movement of more than 60,000 pupils in 51 public elementary schools and 13 high schools supported by the city government during school days.
Police conduct Negros jail check
DUMAGUETE CITY (PNA) — The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Negros Oriental headed by Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas conducted a surprise inspection of the Negros Oriental Detention and Rehabilitation Center on Thursday amid talks of a planned jailbreak at the provincial government-managed jail facility.
At least 83 PNP personnel, including the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, the Provincial PNP Public Safety Company, uniformed police and intelligence operatives, and K-9 teams from the PNP and Coast Guard-Dumaguete, spent hours sifting through personal belongings and checking detention cells, perimeter security, and practically scouring the entire provincial jail compound.
Leyte holds crisis management meet
TACLOBAN CITY — A one-day Crisis Incident Management Seminar Exercise (CIMSE) was recently conducted by the Eastern Visayas Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) to capacitate local officials and national agencies in effectively handling crisis incidents.

Roxas City school netbooks stolen
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — An elementary school in Roxas City lost at least R500,000 worth of netbooks to burglars who ransacked the school a few days before the opening of classes on Monday.
Antonia Capapas, principal of Loctugan Elementary School in Roxas City, confirmed that 20 units of netbooks were stolen by still unidentified burglars.
Capapas believed the robbery which happened Wednesday evening might have been perpetrated by more than two suspects who entered the media center by destroying the padlock of the adjoining Guidance Office.
