SAN JOSE, Antique, Philippines (PIA) — Twelve public high schools in the Antique province were recipients of computers from the Department of Trade and Industry’s Personal Computers for Public Schools (PCPS) program.
Delivery of the computers will be on June 20, 2011 while installation of these units in different schools will be on June 22, 27 and 29. The PCPS project is the response by the DTI and the Department of Education to challenges posed by the fast emerging Knowledge Economy.
Bacolod to mark independence day
BACOLOD CITY (PIA) — Independence Day celebrations in Bacolod will start on June 6, Monday with a flag raising ceremony in the morning, then capped with the release of 113 red, white and blue balloons at the New Government Center (NGC) grounds. On June 7, a whole-day “Fiesta sa NGC” will be held, ending with a film showing at 6 p.m. at the same venue. The “Fiesta” will continue until the 10th, a Friday, capped with a “San Mig Night” at 6 p.m. on June 10. There will also be a cultural show on June 11 and an Independence Day parade on June 12.
Cops ready for school opening
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The Antique Police Provincial Office under PSSupt. Ruperto T. Floro Jr deployed personnel for “Oplan Balik Eskwela” in preparation for opening of classes on June 6, 2011. Each of the 18 municipal police stations in Antique has organized a team to implement “Oplan Balik Eskwela,” according to PO2 Ria May dela Cruz, Information Officer of PNP Antique. The teams in coordination with barangay and school officials, will ensure orderliness and safety of children when school opens. They will manage traffic along the highways, establish assistance desk and make police personnel visible in the vicinity of schools.
Investors needed for sports facilities
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo wants business investors to invest in sports and cultural facilities to be constructed by the provincial government. He recently met with the Negros Oriental Business Development Foundation (NOBDF), and asked foundation members to help develop a strategy to attract more investors in investing in such facilities as the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center, Aqua Center, Perdices Coliseum, Negros Oriental Convention Center and the half-finished Provincial Coliseum Hotel.
Blood donors are heroes – P.R.C.
SIQUIJOR (PIA) — As Siquijor joins Blood Donors Month in June, Administrator Rowena Maputi of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) here lauded voluntary blood donors as “silent heroes of today.” Voluntary blood donation is the foundation for sufficient supply of blood in times of emergencies, she said. She urged Siquijodnons to be “silent heroes,” enumerating advantages of being a donor which include free physical examination, free blood typing and testing and most especially screening of five blood-transmissible infections such as Hepatitis B, C, Syphyllis, Malaria and HIV-AIDS.
