DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines (PNA) — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) offers its Educational and Financial Learning Center (EFLC) for students who want to do research and further studies on economics and financial-related issues. The EFLC was formally opened during the inauguration and blessing of the new building of BSP-Dumaguete branch Wednesday.
According to BSP Governor and Monetary Board Chairman Amando Tetangco Jr., the EFLC is one of the programs of BSP in its commitment to help in the development of the region.
Firm donates rooms in Olango
OLANGO ISLAND, Cebu — Aside from its commitment to plant five million mangrove trees in this island, the Kanepackage Philippines, Inc. (KPPI) has also donated a day-care classroom building that will benefit over 50 pre-schoolers here.
KPPI turned-over a brand-new day-care center in barangay San Vicente recently just in time for the opening of classes this week where each enrolled learner also received school supplies and books.
Meanwhile, Kanepackage President Mr. Yoshikasu Kanesaka and Vice-President Mr. Seigo Yagi together with the management and staff of Kanepackage Philippines personally joined the said occasion. (Phoebe Jen Indino)
Cebu eyes rules on ziplines
CEBU — A proposed ordinance at the Cebu Provincial Board is seeking to regulate the operation of ziplines around the province, as the popularity of such adventure tourism activity also allegedly poses danger to the public.
Penned by then Provincial Board member and currently Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, the proposed ordinance seeks to create rules and standards in the construction, establishment, and operation of ziplines to ensure that materials used have passed the safety standards.
The said ordinance was proposed following reports of incidents where the lines used in ziplines snapped, resulting to injuries to one user. (Mars W. Mosqueda Jr.)
Inspection of Banica River done
DUMAGUETE CITY (PNA) — Demolition of illegally-built structures along the banks of the Banica River in Dumaguete is in the offing after an on-the–spot inspection conducted by elements of Task Force SAGARR on Wednesday morning.
Task Force team leader Joey Abella, however, said, even if these structures are illegally–built, owners are still accorded due process, by first issuing them warning letters for compliance.
Failure to heed the call for the voluntary removal will force the city to enforce existing ordinances. Findings showed that a number of structures are blocking the dikes while others are protruding to the river, posing danger to lives and properties when floods come.
Thomas arrives in Iloilo City
ILOILO CITY — Police forces are extend maximum security to United States Ambassador Harry Thomas Jr., who arrived in Iloilo Thursday.
“We are extending him maximum security to ensure his safety,” said S/Supt. Marietto Valerio, chief of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), on the American ambassador’s two-day visit. ICPO is in full force.
It is augmented by units from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), the 301st Infantry Brigade (301IB) of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), and force multipliers including barangay peace action teams (BPATs). (Tara Yap)
