BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines (PIA) — Two medical missions in E.B. Magalona and Hinobaan, Negros Occidental were recently held, benefitting poor families in these towns.
The mission was spearheaded by the Vice Mayor’s League of the Philippines-Negros Occidental Chapter (VMLP-NOC) led by Bacolod City Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson.
The activities were part of the VMLP-NOC’s continuing efforts to assist financially-depressed province folks and was especially appreciated by residents of E.B. Magalona which was hit by floods recently.
RDRRMC guidelines on disaster groups
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) chaired by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Rosario T. Cabrera is formulating guidelines on the accreditation, mobilization and protection of disaster volunteers.
The RDRRMC has been holding consultations with the regional council and local disaster management councils for recommendations on disaster volunteers. A recent consultation was held June 13 with the Communications and Warning Group chaired by the National Telecommunications Commission.
A similar consultation was also held with Negros Occidental’s Search and Rescue Group earlier.
PNP in Capiz resorts gains
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Eight loose firearms were netted by the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) in the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s ongoing campaign against unlicensed guns here.
The loose firearms in the custody of CPPO were those abandoned by suspects during encounters, which were then recovered by responding policemen.
“We have a continuing effort against loose firearms," said Capiz police director S/Supt.Domingo Cabillan, who added that gun licenses must be renewed otherwise these will be considered loose firearms.
Army, teachers meet to bond
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Philippine Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion based in Guihulngan City recently met with 600 public school teachers in Guihulngan City to strengthen the bond between the Army and the academe.
The one-day, division-wide conference held last week with teachers under the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Guihulngan City was the first such activity conducted by the 11th IB under its "Bayanihan Para sa Kinabukasan ng mga Kabataan" program.
Lt. Col. Ramil Bitong, 11th IB Commander said the DepEd plays a key role in the internal peace and security plan of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
DPWH's role in Balik Eskwela
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — In areas covered by the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH)’s Southern Leyte Engineering District (SLED), new enrollees and returning students were treated to repainted pedestrian crossings in front of schools, repaired potholes along national roads leading to different schools, and cleared obstructions on streets leading to school sites.
Also, school buildings were completed or repaired, line canals near schools were declogged and billboards, signages and other eyesore in the vicinity of schools were removed by the agency’s local office here.
