PALO, Leyte, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Eastern Visayas has asked DPWH Central Office for R137 million for the replacement of the damaged Calbiga steel bridge in Calbiga, Samar.
Said bridge is a vital infrastructure in Eastern Visayas as it connects Leyte to Samar and the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao.
DPWH 8 Regional Director Rolando M. Asis said the steel bridge will be converted into a concrete one.
He lauded Calbiga town mayor Melchor Nacario and other local officials in the area for calling their attention regarding the deteriorated state of said bridge and other pertinent concerns. (Nestor L. Abrematea)
Twin events in Bacolod City
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines (PIA) — Bacolod City is all set for two more special events this month – its 73rd Charter Day on June 18 and national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday on June 19.
Markers commemorating the signing of Commonwealth Act. No. 326 creating the City of Bacolod will be unveiled on June 18 and the next day, a flag raising ceremony will be held at Rizal Elementary School along Araneta Street. Meanwhile, the "Fiesta sa New Government Center (NGC),” on since June 6, was extended to June 19.
Street lights brighten up Kalibo
KALIBO, Aklan, Philippines (PIA) — Walking along Mabini Street in Kalibo at night is now a bright and safe experience with the installation of streetlights along the streets fronting Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital stretching all the way to Roxas Avenue.
The lights were installed by Aklan’s provincial government to ensure peace and order.
The streetlights have been hailed as a move which improves Aklan’s provincial capital as a mirror of the province.
Besides promoting public safety and peace and order, the area is now seen as an attractive place for visitors to promenade about at night.
127 soldiers retrained by 8ID
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines (PIA) — In support of government’s peace and security operations, the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division (8ID) recently held Restructured Reenlistment Training (RRT) for 127 soldiers from its various units and battalions.
The soldiers, who will undergo refresher training at the 8th Division Training Unit were asked to focus on learning the Army’s core competences as embodied in the ten-in-one hands-on training and be more ready to fight and win the peace in and for the region after the training.
1st Cebu creative industries summit
