DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Philippines (PNA) — Law enforcement agencies and offices implementing traffic laws, rules and regulations will attend here a three-day seminar jointly held by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) starting Friday.
Some 88 participants, including civilian traffic enforcers from the local government units and two police personnel from each of the 25 police stations in the province are expected in the seminar which will discuss, among other topics, their deputation by the LTO and the presence of “colorum” or illegally-operating vehicles for hire.
Bohol SWAT team gets equipment
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PNA) — Governor Edgar Chatto recently turned over additional equipment to the Special Weapons and Tactic (SWAT) team of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) to boot the latter’s capability.
Turned over were 11 caliber 5.56 M4, three bullet-proof vests, four bullet-proof helmets, two bullet-proof shields, a tactical ladder, a battering ram, and a black hawk dynamic entry backpack.
A vehicle was also assigned to the BPPO to improve its personnel’s mobility. Next to Cebu, Bohol is the second province to form a SWAT team in 2008.
DepEd priority
BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan (PNA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) is committed to adopt the Pantawid Pamilya, government’s top poverty-alleviation program as its top priority, according to DepEd Undersecretary for Regional Operations Rizalino D. Rivera during the opening of DepEd’s national consultation on program implementation attended by regional directors of concerned agencies in the country’s 17 regions.
He said education is an indicator in ensuring the program’s success. Also, DepEd personnel can attest if indeed, children of school age belonging to Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries are enrolled in schools.
Cebu coops get P1.4M funding
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — Six Cebu-based cooperatives received P1.4 million in microfinance grants from Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (AFI) to fund various sustainable livelihood projects. Among the recipients were Tabla Multipurpose Cooperative (MPC), Paknaanon MPC, Tina-an Neighborhood MPC, LLC Muslim Ambulant Vendors MPC, and Paknaan Community Credit Cooperative.
One recipient is the foundation’s current partner cooperative, the Purok Sili Urban Poor MPC. Twelve Tabla MPC members and 10 Tina-an Neighborhood MPC members will engage in swine fattening, while the Paknaan Community Credit Cooperative will go into rug making. Three other cooperatives will use the funds for livelihood development projects.
Farm tractors burned in Negros
E.B. MAGALONA, Negros Occ. (PNA) — New People's Army (NPA) rebels burned heavy equipment owned by Oscar Ledesma in Hda. Teresa in Brgy. Alicante in this town last week. Local police say armed men forcibly to a tractor from the caretaker and set it on fire.
Earlier, armed me also burned P1.5 million worth of tractors owned by Jovie Gallo and Erick Gallaga in Hda. Riverside, Brgy. Sn. Isidro, in the same town. Police here say aforesaid landowners refuse to pay so-called revolutionary tax to the NPA.
