CEBU CITY, Philippines (PNA) – The Cebu City Government is seeking a grant from the Asian Development Bank-Cities Development Initiative for Asia (ADB-CDIA) for the implementation of its half-a-billion-peso flood mitigation and drainage master plan of the city, an official said.
Cebu City administrator Jose Marie Poblete said the city needs all the help it can get for the immediate implementation of the drainage master plan because of the scale of the project.
Cebu City’s P552.6-million drainage master plan covers the construction of detention basins or mini-dams, P88 million; rainwater tanks, P15.7 million; infiltration beds and trucks, P79.1 million; improvement of water channels, P276.3 million; improvement of drainage, P89.3 million; and desiltation of waterways, P4 million.
Infant health bill passage praised
CEBU CITY — Just in time for the celebration of Nutrition Month, health officials in the region have also expressed their strong support for the passage of Republic Act (RA) 10152, otherwise known as the Mandatory Infant and Children Health Immunization Act of 2011.
National Nutrition Council (NNC) and the Federation of Barangay Health Workers in Central Visayas during the recent launching of the month long celebration warmly welcomed the bill's passage as it will provide greater protection for children specially those coming from poor families. Samar roads done before rain
BORONGAN, Eastern Samar – Concreting of some 19.133 kilometers of road sections worth P380 million along Wright-Taft-Borongan-Guiuan Road in Eastern Samar will soon be finished this August before the onslaught of the very wet season from September to February.
The concreting and rehabilitation of the critical road network here comes in 12 contract packages funded under Regular Infra Projects of the infrastructure agency. (Jack C. Gadaingan)
Outline to meet BPO needs
CEBU CITY – The Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd 7) is set to draft a curriculum that aims to improve the quality of employable manpower for the business process outsourcing (BPO) firms in the region. “DepEd recognizes the importance of the booming BPO sector here and we want to be able to help the industry players by providing them with quality manpower,” said DepEd 7 Director Recaredo Borgonia.
According to Borgonia, his office was commissioned by Education Secretary Armin Luistro to “tap the BPOs for partnership” by formulating effective mechanisms to bridge the industry-academe gap. (Malou M. Mozo)
PRC mobile service in Bacolod
BACOLOD CITY (PNA) – The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Tuesday kicked off its four-day mobile service in this city to process applications and renewal of licenses. The activity "PRC on the Road", currently ongoing at the Bacolod Pavilion, was facilitated by the office of Bacolod City lone district Rep. Anthony Golez.
Under the activity, the PRC will process applications for the Sept. 25 Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and the initial registration of new professionals or examinees who already passed the licensure examinations of their respective fields.
