NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines (PIA) — The medical mission organized here recently by the provincial government along with multinational biotechnology firm Syngenta surpassed its expected number of clients to be served as well medicines distributed.
From a target of 300, over 500 farmers were assisted while medicines given reached nearly 15,000. Syngenta also gave a blood pressure apparatus each to Brgy Sagasa and Brgy. Tabunan in Bago City and Brgy.
Samar towns benefit from FMR
DARAM, Samar — People from remote villages here will soon benefit from the 3.68-kilometer farm-to-market road (FMR) passing through the remote villages of Mayabay, Mabini and San Roque being built at a cost of P19 million.
Some P11.5 million in funding comes from the Philippine government through the Daram local government LGU, with another P7.6 million coming from the Asian Development Bank. (Restituto A. Cayubit)
Bacolod as most friendly city
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — The Regional Technical Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children will again evaluate Bacolod City on July 15 and 16, as one of the candidates in the Search for the Most Child Friendly City.
The search aims to institutionalize and sustain a child-friendly environment by promoting and protecting children’s rights.
Through the award, local government units (LGU) are encouraged to prioritize and address issues and concerns affecting the full realization of children’s rights.
Bohol towns are Makati's sisters
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) — Six Bohol towns and Tagbilaran City during a recent visit of President Jejomar Binay here renewed their sisterhood agreement with Makati City. The towns are Danao, Bien Unido, Getafe, Baclayon, Loay, and San Miguel.
These towns and Tagbilaran came into sisterhood agreements with Makati in 2008. “We did the sisterhood agreement in 2008, firmly believing that we have a lot to learn from the management system of Makati as an inspiration to bring in a similar economic emancipation template in our 5th class towns,” mayors of those towns said.
Dumaguete mulls breast-feeding stations
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Dumaguete City plans to pass an ordinance for the setting up of a lactating station in the workplace in support of the implementation of the “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009."
City Nutrition Officer Lourdes Taburaza said the ordinance will be aimed at providing breastfeeding mothers comfort and privacy in feeding their babies outside their residences. Negros Oriental is currently observing the 37th Nutrition Month through the campaign activities under the Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC) focused on exclusive breastfeeding for infants.
