TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines (PIA) — The Kasadyaan Trade, Science and Industry Fair held here generated a total of P810,210 sales surpassing the P115,000 figure targeted by the Department of Trade and Industry’s Leyte office.
The Fair was held at the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival Park, at the RTR Plaza here. Of total sales, processed food contributed P356,165 or 44 percent while P386,245 or 48 percent came from gifts, decors and handicrafts. The remaining P67, 800 (8%) were generated by furniture products sales.
No jobs for PWDs rued
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The local chief of the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA) in Negros Oriental is lamenting the lack of job opportunities available for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Aurora Flores, Local PMHA chapter executive manager Aurora Flores said despite training activities conducted by the government to enable PWDs, only a handful of them land jobs in both private and public sectors.
Flores said based on Republic Act 9442 or the Magna Carta for PWDs, five percent of contractual work force in government should be reserved for PWDs qualified for jobs. “We need to look into how to employ them,” she said.
Capiz prices, goods supply stable
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Capiz Trade and Industry Monitoring head Merian Asas said prices of basic and prime commodities in Capiz are stable and supply of these goods are adequate. No significant movements in prices of goods here have been noted, she said even as she continued to remind retailers not to go beyond their suggested retail price (SRP) so as not to be penalized.
She also asked local government units to activate their respective Local Price Coordinating Council and be involved in the conduct of price monitoring to protect their people against erring businessmen.
Visayas LGUs join DOJ event
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Negros Oriental-Siquijor Cluster of the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) has set activities to celebrate the 35th Parole and Probation-Department of Justice Founding Anniversary.
The July 24 event includes a therapeutic community meeting with 150 probationers and a lecture on Alternative Learning in coordination with the Department of Education. PPA Information Officer Maria Necita Mariño said the month-long celebration will see the holding of activities organized by Negros Oriental and Siquijor and other PPA offices in other component parts of Negros Oriental.
Cops prop smoke ban enforcers
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — Personnel from the Healthy City Initiatives (HCI) enforcers tasked to go after smokers here will be assisted by Maasin City police in implementing the city’s anti-smoking campaign.
Police Supt. Hector Enage said for the first time, the city’s policemen will be directly involved in running after smokers in public places.
Policemen accompanying anti-smoking enforcers will be the ones issuing citation tickets against those caught in the act.
