ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines (PNA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio Singson has committed to support the formulation of an integrated drainage master plan for Iloilo City. Singson made this commitment when he visited Iloilo City recently to visit and inspect sites of proposed DPWH-funded priority projects.
“We have committed that we will start drawing up a drainage master plan for Iloilo city so as to reduce flood-prone areas here. Unless we do an integrated master plan for the city, doing segments without an integrated master plan will not address the whole situation,” Singson was reported to have said.
Cebu customs seeks NBI's help
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu is seeking National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) assistance in running after a syndicate collecting money from people by telling them they have packages and shipments which will not be released without paying customs fees through Western Union.
Some victims have reportedly paid as much as R15,000 and $450 through Western Union for non-existent packages. NBI 7 Director Edward Villarta wrote BOC Port of Cebu OIC-District Collector Francis Agustin Y. Erpe about such large-scale fraud by a syndicate using the BOC’s name.
Day-care workers as responders
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — Antique’s San Jose town is preparing its day-care workers to become first aiders in time of disasters. Recently, 26 day-care workers underwent training on disaster preparedness held at San Jose’s Let’s Care Home for Girls.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office here believe it is important that they learn how to provide first aid. Day-care centers here serve as evacuation centers for certain types of disasters and day care workers are the usual front line service providers in post-disaster operations like relief distribution.
400 carpenters needed in Dubai
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — The Bacolod Public Employment Services Office (PESO), through the White Pearl Recruitment Agency, is looking for 400 carpenters for the Dubai Airport Project in the United Arab Emirates.
A salary equivalent to P25,000 monthly awaits qualified candidates, plus free food, accommodation and transport. A contract of two years and a bonus of two months' salary are guaranteed for those who will be hired. Interested parties may call the local PESO Office for inquiries.
P244-million Guimaras projects start
GUIMARAS (PNA) — Some P244 million worth of projects are being implemented in Guimaras province with funds sourced from the district fund of P79 million for four target projects while the regional office provided P165 million to cover gaps in the circumferential road project.
The circumferential road project traverses Jordan, Buenavista, San Lorenzo, Sibunag and Nueva Valencia towns. Meanwhile, concreting of the access road leading to Sebaste wharf accommodating roll-on-roll-off vessels in Sibunag town has been completed.
