ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) — Five Revenue District Offices (RDO) in the Western Visayas region will join the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) – 6 sportsfest here starting Thursday till Friday, Aug. 5. The sportsfest is part of activities marking the BIR’s 107th foundation anniversary.
The RDOs in the region are in Kalibo, Aklan, San Jose Antique, Zarraga town and Iloilo City in Iloilo and Roxas City in Capiz. Earlier this week there was also a command conference at the BIR Central Office in Quezon City to assess and review taxation efforts in RDOs nationwide.
Best public service photo contest
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has opened to government employees a photo contest aimed at capturing images of public service at its best. The photo contest, dubbed “Give It Your Best Shot! Photography Contest,” was launched as part of the 111th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary celebration this September.
The celebration is themed “Excellence in Public Service.” All government employees holding permanent positions except those with the CSC, can submit entries until 5 p.m. of August 18, 2011. Those interested may contact the CSC 6 Regional Office in Manduarriao, Iloilo.
Northern Negros model corn farm
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) — The provincial government, along with its partners, plan to put up a model corn farm aimed at increased harvests and income for poor corn plants here.
Syngenta International official Loy Martinez III said Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has offered an area in northern Negros where the company can pilot its hybrid non-GMO seeds that yield more output compared to the conventional yellow corn.
Said seeds can produce seven to ten tons of corn per hectare compared to the open pollinated variety inbred corn yielding only from four to five tons per hectare, he said.
Help sought for Sibulan minors
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Mayor Marcela Bartoces of Sibulan, Negros Oriental, asked for the assistance of the Provincial Police Office to verify reports about two minors working in an entertainment bar here.
The mayor received reports that one of the entertainment bars has employed minors to do lewd shows.
She said her team has difficulty in conducting entrapment operations as the minors and operator are always alert each time a monitoring team is around.
40-day rice in Iloilo
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — Iloilo province has a current rice buffer stock of 746,575 bags good for at least 40 days, according to National Food Authority (NFA) Iloilo Assistant Provincial Manager Miguel Aguirre.
He said the buffer stock is computed based on Ilonggos’ daily consumption of 18,710 bags of rice. Aguirre also said these bags of rice are stored in the NFA warehouse and with individual consumers.
