DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Philippines (PIA) — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Education (DepEd), and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has adjudged St. Paul University Dumaguete (SPUD) as the Most Sustainable and Eco – Friendly School in Central Visayas.
This yearly nationwide search recognizes efforts of schools in undertaking eco-friendly programs and activities. SPUD won the same title last year for its environmental program known as ECO-SWARM or Ecological Solid Waste Reduction Management which implemented the Integrated & Sustainable Farming.
Cadiz LGU gives cash, utensils
CADIZ, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Fishers and farmers in this city received cash incentives from the city government while day care centers received cooking utensils for their feeding program.
City Mayor Patrick Escalante along with Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Dr. Minda Brigoli gave such incentive to 343 identified beneficiaries under the Cash for Training/Work Project for Small Scale Fisher folks and Farmers held at Don Bernardo Benedicto Community Center.
Also, 3,735 sets of feeding for 106 daycare centers were also given for their feeding program and P500 social pension cash each to 186 indigent senior citizens on the same day.
Capiz schools win brigada tilt
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Four Capiz public schools were declared top performers in the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program. The Maayon National High School was adjudged second place winner in this year’s Regional Search on Brigada Eskwela under the Special School category.
Panitan National High School was also third place winner in the medium school category while the Antonio Belo Elementary School in Timpas, Panitan town and Maayon Elementary School also won third and fifth place, respectively in the small school category.
Indigenous people's day in Antique
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — Hundreds of indigenous persons or “tumandok” from different indigenous people (IP) communities in Antique province were at the EBJ Gymnasium in Binirayan Hills, San Jose to mark International Indigenous People’s Day last week.
Guest of honor and speaker Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Mateo G. Montaňo of the Department of Social Welfare and Development underscored the significant contributions of IP communities in development undertakings.
52nd IB recruits 250 CAAS
BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar (PIA) — The 52nd Infantry (Eagle) Battalion held a joint opening ceremony Aug. 10, 2011 for civilian active auxiliary basic military training(CAA BMT) Class 04-11 and distribution of separation payoff CAA personnel and special and financial assistance for CAA dependents.
The event was formally opened by Lt. Col. Jose Narciso, 52IB Commanding Officer, with 250 students comprised of two females and 248 males from Cebu, Leyte, and Samar.
