ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) — The national government will include 325 households in Capiz in its on-going survey to form part of the Family Health Survey being undertaken by the National Statistics Office (NSO). The survey involves interviews of women 15 to 49 years old regardless of marital status in the sample households.
NSO said the respondents will be asked about their background characteristics, children they have given birth to, use of family planning method, their children’s health, reproductive health and other information of help to policy makers and administrator in the field of health and family planning. They survey will end August 31, 2011.
Child protection
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Iloilo Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) has new momentum in Executive Order (EO) No. 109. Issued Aug. 4, the EO orders the reorganization of the Council, with Governor Arthur Defensor as chairperson.
The EO incorporates the Early Childhood Care and Development Committee with the PCPC, giving it primary role in ensuring effective implementation and enforcement of all policies and programs for the survival, development, protection, and participation of children in the province. PCPC Co-chair, DILG provincial director Rosario Maza said, since most of the CICL operate in the barangays, the Municipal and Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children, must be also be reactivated.
Deadline extended
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) 6 has extended the deadline for Pantawid Pasada card availment in Western Visayas to August 31, 2011. Card distribution was originally set to end last Aug. 19. The distribution of the card was originally set to end Friday, August 19.
As of August 18, LTO 6 data shows that some 5,062 or 49.22 percent of 10,285 Pasada cards allotted for the region were already claimed by beneficiaries who are operators and public utility jeepney drivers. The cards contain P1,050 for use in fuel purchase.
Coconut week
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — Eastern Visayas’ Coconut Week was highlighted with the conduct of a one-day training on coco sap sugar-making and parasitoid mass production. The activity was meant to encourage coconut stakeholders to venture into coco-sugar processing at the village level as a technology with least capitalization.
Coconut sap sugar is one of the most natural sweeteners touted as a wonder sugar because of the health benefits it offers compared to other sweeteners. Purely organic, it is used as a control measure for diabetics.
'Operation Hagibis'
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Cebu City government has organized ‘Operation Hagibis’ a drive aimed at helping control traffic due to the proliferation of single motorcycles called “habal-habals” operating as passenger carriers in such barangays as Lahug, Kalunasan, Guadalupe and other remote and mountain barangays here.
Mayor Michael Rama called the attention of mountain barangay captains to discuss methods about how to effectively deal with ‘habal-habal’ drivers either overspeeding or parking and picking up passengers in undesignated areas. The operation is led by City Administrator Jose Poblete along with Cebu City Police Office Director S/Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe and the barangay captains of the identified barangays.
