TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines (PIA) — The controversial reproductive health bill has found another supporter in Eastern Visayas.
Population Commission (POPCOM) regional director Leo Rama has mounted a signature campaign in support of the RH bill in the region’s projected six million population this year.
He said the campaign, now in progress, has gained 30% signatures. The campaign cites the latest SWS surveys showing that 76% of Filipinos support the RH bill, Rama said.
Tax forum
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) will conduct a regional tax forum with professionals Wednesday, at Ritz Tower de Leyte, Tacloban City.
The forum is aimed at gathering all practicing professionals in Eastern Visayas for them to be updated and informed of their tax responsibilities and obligations under the National Internal Revenue Code.
Topics topics to be discussed are BIR priority thrusts and programs, and basic tax processes like registration, invoicing and bookkeeping requirements, correct filing of returns, offenses and penalties, among others.
Madalag bridge
KALIBO, Aklan M(PIA) — The nearly-completed 200-meter bridge linking Banga town and the rest of the province to Madalag, a municipality across Aklan River, will soon enable farmers to deliver their agricultural products faster and more frequently to markets. The bridge will also make travel time to Kalibo shorter.
Madalagnons also hope the bridge’s completion will eliminate drowning tragedies claiming lives mostly of school children who brave the raging waters of Aklan River by riding on a bamboo raft to get to school in Poblacion Madalag during stormy weather. Aklan’s Provincial Engineer’s Office says the bridge could be complete by October this year.
Green Bacolod
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — Executive Order number 21 reconstituted The Bacolod City Task Force Clean and Green aimed at promoting green communities in this city has been reconstituted through Executive Order No. 21 signed by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia who said the body’s purpose is to ensure and support the health and safety of the general public, by sustaining government programs bringing about an epidemic-free environment.
The task force comprises of Leonardia as honorary chairperson, the vice mayor as honorary vice chairperson and a representative from the Lions Club as overall chairperson with selected city councilors as cluster heads.
Schools repaired
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Armed Forces of the Philippines – Central Command (CentCom), in partnership with the Guam National Guard (GUNG), is renovating classrooms in the city’s Poblacion Pardo Elementary School. Some 20 GUNG team personnel team joined hands with personnel from the CentCom and the 53rd Engineering Brigade in the activity which started last Saturday and will end August 27.
“This activity is part of strengthening relations between the Philippines and the United States,” CentCom Commanding General Lieutenant General Ralph Villanueva said. The GUNG team, which includes medical and dental personnel from the US, will also give medical and dental services to residents of Cebu City’s Barangay Poblacion Pardo and Sitio Cantipla, Barangay Tabunan.
