CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines – The provincial government has welcomed Cebu Korean Association, Inc. Vice-President Charlie Shin’s suggestion for a Korean consulate to be established in Cebu because of the huge influx of Koreans here.
Department of Tourism records show that South Korea is the country’s largest foreign tourist market with 740,622 visitors or 21 percent of a total 3.52 million foreign visitors to the country in 2010. So far, this year, between January and June, some 429,569 Koreans visited the country. Garcia said already, Japan and China has taken cognizance of Cebu’s importance by opening consular offices here. DTI tips
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) – Food processors of candied fruits, ginger/herbal tea, muscovado confectioneries, wines, jams and jelly, peanut candies and processed fish here are availing of consultancy services on labeling and packaging of food products from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
Antique DTI provincial director Jose M. Divinagracia said such services represent the agency’s intervention in micro and small enterprises here to become competitive in the market. He also said DTI is committed in helping expose these products in exhibits, trade fairs and expositions so that entrepreneurs here can gain wider exposure for their products.
BBCY center
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – Children and young adults with disabilities in Roxas City and some parts of Capiz province will continue to benefit from the services of the training and development center here.
Roxas City Vice Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, representing Mayor Angel Alan Celino, has accepted full responsibility in sustaining the Breaking Barriers for Children and Young Adults with Disabilities (BBCY) training and development center here.
The project is a joint endeavor of the Katipunan ng Maykapansanan sa Pilipinas (KAMPI), Inc. and the Danish Society on Polio and Accident Victims funded by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).
Filipinnovation event
SIQUIJOR (PIA) – The Department of Science and Technology-Siquijor is inviting local start-ups in the province to join the 2nd Filipinnovation competition for a chance to win P100,000 in cash in various categories on Nov. 25, 2011. Filipino start-up firms operating less than three years with exemplary technological content, market viability and high socioeconomic impact potential may join.
The Filippinovation award recognizes companies with innovative technology development in biotechnology, electronics, information and communication technology, material sciente/engineering, nanotechnology, and robotics/mechatronics or a combination of said fields.
Gawad Kalasag
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) – The St. Bernard Municipal Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) will undergo validation as Gawad Kalasag nominee for best practices particularly in forewarning local communities in times of disaster through the use of Early Warning System (EWS).
A team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Department of the Interior and Local Government will validate the Council this week.
