KALIBO, Aklan, Philippines (PIA) — Kalibo’s senior citizens will mark Senior Citizens Week on October 1-7 with various activities including a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Jude Thaddeus Church, an “Alay sa Nakatatanda” walk for a cause, a “Baligya-Baligya” at the Senior Citizens Center especially for those with farm produce, and the naming of the winner of the search for “Señora 2011.”
There will also be free medical services and vitamins to be provided by the Kalibo Rural Health Physicians for 10 chosen senior citizens from each of Kalibo’s 16 barangays on Oct. 4.
Negros 4Ps
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) — According to Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Director Minda Brigoli, the poorest families in the cities of Talisay, Silay, Victorias and La Carlota may soon have a better future as government brings its poverty reduction program to their communities in 2012.
DSWD data points to a total 49,880 validated Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries with some R330.308 million so far released for the program. Brigoli said the program’s focus now is on sustainable livelihood and guaranteed employment for beneficiaries.
Crime lab
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The construction of a R1 million crime laboratory at the old Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) at Barangay X1 here will start this month after funding for it was approved by the Capiz Provincial Board, according to Gov. Victor A. Tanco, Sr. during a recent Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC).
He said the lab will boost Capiz’s anti-illegal drugs campaign, laboratory processing and preserve crime evidence and pre-empt any attempt to alter such evidence. Currently, lab examinations needed by local police in filing criminal cases have to be conducted at the Iloilo PNP Crime Laboratory.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Great Physician (GP) Rehabilitation Foundation will mark the seventh year anniversary of its Caring Hands to Inspire and Link with Differently-Abled Children (CHILD) project on September 17, 2011 in Dumaguete City.
The celebration kicks off with a thanksgiving Mass to be participated in by GPRehab staff, Local Care Givers (LCGs), Differently-Abled Children’s Parents Association (DACPA) members, and GPRehab community stakeholders.
Statistics month
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — Provincial Statistics Officer (PSO) Letecia C. Chu is asking concerned agencies to participate and support the 22nd National Statistics Month this October with the theme: “Quality Social Protection Statistics for Focused Targeting: Improving Outcomes, Changing Lives.”
The celebration is covered by Proclamation No. 647 which aims “to promote and enhance public awareness and appreciation on the value” of statistics to various sectors. The agency said the public, particularly in the barangays, should not disregard government’s need for accurate data, whenever they are asked by enumerators about household-related figures as these are basic information used by government planners in determining programs and projects for the poor.
