DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines (PNA) — After one year as provincial director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Negros Oriental, Sr. Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas disclosed during a briefing with a team of inspectors from the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City that the crime rate in Negros Oriental has dropped this year compared to last year.
Records showed that the average monthly crime rate before September last year was 46 percent and this was drastically reduced to 23 percent upon the assumption of Lawas. In his presentation, Lawas said from a general index crimes of 4,099 during the period covered, his administration has drastically brought the number down to 2,273, adding that this has contributed to the high solution efficiency of crimes committed, pegged at around 47 percent as of September this year.
Alcala visit
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala will lead the turnover of several projects and meet with farmers group in northern Iloilo on Friday.
Agriculture Regional Agri-Fishery Information Division (RAFID) chief Juvy Gaton said Alcala will join farmers during an information caravan that will be held at the town of Barotac Viejo thereafter proceed to the municipality of Carles.
In Carles, he will inaugurate the new fishing port complex situated in Barangay Carles which was facilitated by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Philippine Fish Port Development Authority.
Heavy equipment
CEBU CITY (PNA) — The Cebu City Government will buy 11 brand-new units of heavy equipment worth P70.5 million from Japan and Europe. The Cebu City Council passed for this purpose a resolution authorizing Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to open a foreign letter of credit amounting to P70.5 million with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) to guarantee payment.
Based on the resolution of Cebu City Councilor Eduardo Rama, the heavy equipment the city intends to purchase include two units of six-wheeler manlift or aerial ladder worth P9,600,000, seven units of six-wheeler garbage compactor trucks worth P38,150,000 and one unit bulldozer worth P20,500,000.
Community hospitals
DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA) — The Negros Oriental provincial government has allotted P6 million for each of the seven community primary hospitals (CPH) in the province. The funds will be used to set up a Basic Emergency Maternal and Obstetrical Neonatal Care (BEMONC) in these hospitals.
The community primary hospitals in Negros Oriental are Pacuan in La Libertad, Kalomboyan in Bayawan City, Amio in Sta. Catalina, Nabilog in Tayasan, Inapoy in Mabinay, Luz in Guihulngan City and Dawis in Bayawan City, which will be integrated next month, according to Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo.
Household survey
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — For the purpose of formulation and implementation of policies and programs that aim to improve the quality of life of the Filipino people, the National Statistics Office (NSO) in coordination with the Department of Energy (DoE) will be conducting the 4th Household Energy Consumption Survey (HECS) for 2011.
Sheryl Ann A. Jamisola, Statistician I of NSO, Region 8, informed that the primary goal of the 2011 HECS is to be able to generate a comprehensive and reliable data, and likewise, to analyze the end-use energy consumption and preferences in the residential sector. It was learned that the survey activities, which is the fourth in a series of HECS conducted nationwide, took off on Sept. 16 and will culminate on Oct. 8.
