ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines (PNA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)’s Iloilo office has started monitoring Christmas lights and noche buena products being sold in the market now that the Christmas season is fast approaching. DTI Iloilo director Wilhelm Malones said the agency is waiting for the new suggested retail price (SRP) of such products and that only an increase of from three to five percent is being expected.
“We advise those buying Christmas lights to see the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) sticker stuck on the products that should say 2009-2011,” Malones said, adding if the sticker is dated 2008, these are already expired and their safety is not guaranteed.
Buglasan festival
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The grand opening of Negros Oriental’s 6th Buglasan Festival on October 14 is expected to increase the influx of tourists in this city during the two-week celebration.
Gov. Roel Degamo has invited the chief executives of some neighboring provinces and said he is anticipating thousands of visitors to witness the province’s grandest festival.
This year’s celebration's theme is “Working Together to Bring Negros Oriental Tourism to Greater Heights.”
Garantisadong Pambata
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) here will launch an expanded Garantisadong Pambata (GP) child health care promotions campaign in Banga, Aklan on October 11 in an effort to ensure healthy behavior among children.
Said launching will highlight the new Department of Health communications packages to be implemented by the Banga Municipal Health Office. “The campaign will introduce child health campaign by visiting sites in our communities where child health care can be promoted and delivered in homes, day care center, schools and the rural health unit,” Cortes said.
Peace candles
LA CARLOTA CITY, Negros Occ. ( PIA) — Over 300 local government officials and workers and representatives of religious; civic, sectoral and private groups; non-government organizations; youth federations, among others participated in the observance of National Peace Consciousness Month here which was capped by the simultaneous lighting of candles for peace held last September 30.
In a speech, Mayor Juliet Marie D. Ferrer said the occasion was a “ripe opportunity to rekindle the spirit of Negrenses aspiring for peace to reign” in their midst.
Women's program
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — After making progress in implementing the Gender Responsive Economic Actions for the Transformation of Women (GREAT Women) Project in identified pilot towns in Leyte province, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) will now work for the sustainability of these projects, with the PCW allocating some P4 million for their implementation next year.
The project will see PCW partnering with national government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to create and implement policies, programs, services and initiatives encouraging and assisting women start and grow their micro-enterprises.
