ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) — The enrollment increase in the elementary grades in Tapaz town is a result in the implementation of government’s poverty-alleviation program, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), requiring more school buildings as a consequence.
Tapaz, Mayor Rosemarie Gardose said the building of additional school buildings will be undertaken under the Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan (KALAHI) program. Tapaz is a recipient of the KALAHI program.
Sagay tourism
SAGAY CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — Sagay City received two awards for its tourism efforts during the 12th National Convention of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) held in Roxas City, Capiz recently.
Adlaw sa Suba 2011 was adjudged First Place for ATOP-Department of Tourism Best Tourism Practices Award – Sports and Wellness Category (city level) and Sinigayan festival 2011 bagged Second Place in the ATOP-DoT Best Tourism Practices Award- Festival Category (city level).
‘Ramon’ alert
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) in Western Visayas advised the DRRMCs of local government units in the region to monitor the weather situation and undertake precautionary measures in connection with tropical depression “Ramon” expected to hit Iloilo City Thursday morning, Oct. 13.
In Weather Advisory No. 1 issued Oct. 10, RDRRMC chair and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional director Rosario T. Cabrera said due to the effects of the tropical depression, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies and rain showers until Thursday.
Tree planting
LAZI, Siquijor (PIA) — In celebration of Cooperative Month this October, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-Siquijor and Lazi National Agricultural School (LNAZ) joined the province-wide tree planting activity organized by the Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDC) here.
Also in line with Government’s Greening Program, the tree-planting activity served as the celebration’s opening activity. The group, bringing with them potted mahogany seedlings and water containers to the site, planted 31 seedlings.

This was announced by DTI Leyte provincial director Desiderio Belas during a press conference in connection with the three-day Consumer Info Fair at Robinsons Place here which marks October as Consumers Welfare Month.
Giving of the Award recognizes businesses adhering to fair trade laws (FTLs), operating a clean and orderly workplace, promoting good employee-employer relationship, and excelling in customer relations, among other factors. The display of the Bagwis Seal of Excellence in duly recognized establishments is an indication to consumers that such establishments offer quality products and services at reasonable prices.
