DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Philippines (PIA) — The Provincial Commission on Women (PCW) is organizing a rural women’s congress in observance of the International Day of Rural Women on October 28, 8 a.m. at the Spanish Heritage in Dumaguete City.
Some 200 women leaders from different local government units (LGUs) in the province have been invited to the Congress. The one-day event will focus on the theme “The Empowerment of Rural Women and their Role in Poverty and Hunger Eradication, Development and Current Challenges.”
Teachers hailed
LA CARLOTA CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — The Department of Education, Division of City Schools in La Carlota City joined the whole country in honoring local school teachers in celebration of the World Teachers' Day. Awards and recognition were presented to top performing teachers from the 23 elementary schools and four high schools in the city for 2010-2011.
These schools are under the supervision of Dr. Juliet A. Jeruta. The occasion was highlighted by a morning float parade and various dance presentations performed by elementary and secondary school principals and teachers during the afternoon program.
LTO-8 assistance
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — As the annual exodus to the provinces has begun in preparation for the traditional observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, Regional Director Camilo T. Guarin said the Land Transportation Office (LTO)-8 is all set to undertake activities serving the riding public as the annual All Saints/All Souls Day exodus to the provinces occurs.
Guarin said he has directed all LTO-8 division and section chiefs, heads of district and extension offices and all personnel concerned to provide a Public Assistance Desk in strategic locations particularly in the different transport terminals in the area of jurisdiction. The areas specially identified by Guarin are the Liloan Terminal for the Maasin District Office; Allen Terminal for the Catarman District Office; and the Tacloban City Airport and the Tacloban City New Bus Terminal for the LTO Regional Office, Tacloban District and Extension and Licensing Center.
Stats exhibit
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — A Statistical Exhibit is now on-going at the Aklan Provincial Trade Hall as part of the 22nd National Statistics Month celebration, with the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) leading local branches of government agencies here in organizing the Statistical Exhibit.
The exhibit started Oct. 25 and will go on till Friday, Oct. 28. Participating are 14 national and provincial offices displaying their respective statistical data, which are essential in determining the needs of the public as well as the number of constituents who would benefit from it.
PWD center
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — A new multi-purpose center appropriately designed for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) had its groundbreaking recently in San Jose, Antique.
The structure, which will serve both as a production and promotion center for persons with disability, was donated by the Liliane Foundation, an organization promoting the development of physically challenged members of our society.
Aside from being a productivity center, it will also serve as a learning center encouraging and advocating public compliance with the accessibility law.
