Carcar road
CEBU CITY (PNA) — Carcar City officials said a four-lane road project that will divert traffic away from the southern city’s heritage sites has been stalled for at least a year because they were waiting for the project’s environmental compliance certificate (ECC).
But Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura said he was surprised to learn after the long wait that an ECC is not required for the road project. Officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 said an ECC is not required, and that the certificate of non-coverage they issued last year already sufficed. Apura said his planning officer has made numerous trips to the DENR office in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City to follow up on their application for an ECC.
Kids' shelter
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — The Iloilo provincial government is encouraging all municipalities in Iloilo to put up a temporary shelter or half-way home for Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) and provide care and management for them.
“This is to cater to minors who have violated our laws. There should be a separate room for them and they should not be treated like criminals,” said Second District board member June Mondejar, who proposed the resolution as requested by the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children. Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. is the chairman of this council.
Housing caravan

He said during the housing caravan, all shelter agencies led by the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) will gather and provide technical sessions to the local government executives and the municipal planning and development officers from all over Western Visayas.
Aklan taxation
KALIBO, Aklan (PNA) — The Bureau of Internal Revenue-Aklan District is appealing to businessmen here to help achieve the remaining tax target for this year to help fund several government programs and projects.
BIR District Director Ricardo Osorio said his district needs to raise P204 million for its last quarter target for this year.
“My hope to achieve such target is for a government project to be implemented in the province with a huge budget allocation or through the businessmen who are paying their taxes on time,” said Osorio.
