ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) — Bishop Jose F. Advincula has been designated Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Capiz. Existing Capiz Archbishop Onesimo C. Gordoncillo said that during his recent visit to the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI appointed the 59-year old bishop to replace him.
A native of Dumarao, Capiz, Advincula was spiritual director and professor at the St. Joseph Regional Seminary in Jaro, Iloilo, a judicial vicar, papal chaplain, and parish priest of St. Tomas de Villanueva Parish in Dao, Capiz before he became the Bishop of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental in July 2001.

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) — Fourteen people from Negros Occidental victimized by human trafficking have sought the help of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.
Four of the victims are currently awaiting court decision on their case which also involves sexual exploitation while the others chose not to file a case for various reasons.
The PSWD said over P70,000 have already been extended to the victims and the financial assistance could still go up because government is bound to help human trafficking victims in court proceedings.
Fire safety
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The Bureau of Fire Protection is reminding Antiqueños to be extra careful in preventing fire especially now that the province is starting to experience sunny and windy day.
The San Jose Fire Station is asking locals not to use or plug in unconditioned and dilapidated electrical devices like electric fans, re-chargeable flashlights, flat irons, oven, television sets and Christmas lights, and to put away from curtains and other flammable objects lighted candles and lamps.
Safety pins of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks should be kept close when not in use and wet rugs should be placed atop tanks and their switch should be properly installed and remain closed when gas fumes are smelled.

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Nearly 600 Mactan Export Zone (MEZ)-1 employees availed of the services of Pag-IBIG Cebu North Branch during its two-day Mobile Service Desk on October 20-21, 2011 at the Lapu-Lapu City football field.
Services offered include membership verification; Employee’s Statement of Accumulated Value (ESAV) printout; Fund briefing; online membership registration; receiving of MPL applications; printout of the Statement of loan balance; and housing loan counseling. Request for printouts of contributions and loan details were made by 309 members while 112 members requested for their loan balance statements.
Enumerators needed
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — The National Statistics Office (NSO) in Samar needs at least 1,000 survey enumerators as they embark on a Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) survey.
NSO Samar Chief Letecia Chu said the NSO was tapped by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to do the survey which will be piloted in 20 provinces including all Samar provinces.
“There will be a listing and registration of all farmer households, farmer laborers and fisherfolks,” Chu told PIA-Samar in an interview.
