CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebu's efforts in promoting and developing the sports of volleyball have finally paid off after the Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) recognized Cebu Province as the “Volleyball Capital of the Philippines.”
PVF President Gener Dungo signed the certificate of recognition it sent to Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, officially making the Province of Cebu as the volleyball capital of the country, citing the “outstanding support and dedication to volleyball by successfully promoting the mission and vision of the PVF in the province.” (Mars W. Learning visit
CALAPE, Bohol – Recognizing the significant role of media in the promotion of good nutrition, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) 7 will be inviting members of the Media Information Network for Nutrition (MIND)7 for a learning visit to some towns of this province.
NNC7 created MIND7 as its media partners in spreading the news on good nutrition and to increase the reach of essential information which is crucial in reducing the incidence of hunger in the region. Police training
ILOILO CITY (PNA) – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) has embarked on a 10-day training for personnel assigned at the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) aimed at honing their capability in handling cases that fall within their jurisdiction.
The Specialized Course for WCPD kicked off Wednesday at the PRO 6 headquarters with 46 personnel from various police stations and units from Western Visayas joining the training, according to the PRO 6 regional public information office. PRO-6 Director Chief Supt.
Cipriano E. Querol Jr., said the course "aims to address the problems on competency of personnel in handling cases against women and their children as well as to elevate the investigative standards of our personnel."
Clean toilets
ILOILO CITY (PNA) – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is urging business establishments here to put in place measures that will always ensure the cleanliness of their comfort rooms.
According to Mabilog, although the campaign for clean comfort rooms may not be that massive due to insufficient water supply, he is appealing to business establishments to initiate feasible measures.
As soon as the water supply is already sufficient, he said he will be asking the Sangguniang Panlungsod to pass an ordinance with corresponding penalties to violators.
Packaging center
ILOILO CITY (PNA) – The Packaging Resource Center, a joint project of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) and the Central Philippine University (CPU), will soon be opened to service industries in Western Visayas.
DoST Regional Director Owen Gelonga said the Packaging Resource Center will also complement the first ever course on Bachelor of Science in Packaging being offered by CPU, making it at present the only university in the country offering packaging engineering course.
Gelonga said the Packaging Resource Center, which received a funding of P960,000 from the DoST, was established after CPU alumnus Dr. Lejo Brana returned from the United States through the DoST "Balik Siyentista" Program and helped establish the project.
