ILOILO CITY, Iloilo, Philippines (PNA) — Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPO) here are being lauded for their role in monitoring the Iloilo city government’s One Million Trees program dubbed Action for Reforestation and Regreening (ART) 1.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. commended the BSPOs during the recent BSPO Day celebration at the Iloilo Sports Complex gym attended by BSPOs from Iloilo’s first, second, third and fourth districts. BSPOs from the fifth district will have their BSPO Day on December 1, 2011 at the Sara, Iloilo municipal gym.
DSWD-7 target
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PNA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 7 is targeting by yearend 100-percent registration of beneficiaries in Negros Oriental in Government’s anti-poverty program, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps, particularly in this city.
DSWD-7 information officer Ails Lariba said a common problem faced by the beneficiaries is compliance with requirements, such as birth, baptismal and marriage certificates. Local government units are now being asked to help beneficiaries comply with said requirements, such as giving them discounts or subsidizing acquisition of the same.
Photo contest
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. will keynote the awarding ceremony of the “1st Asian Underwater Federation Photography Championships” kicked off last November 26 by organizer, Philippine Association on Underwater Activities (PAUA).
The event aims to promote and raise the level of awareness on the importance of undersea system protection. Some 150 international underwater photographers from 143 countries are in Cebu to compete in said event which provides participants a chance to capture images of the country’s diverse marine environment.
Antique's 'Pagsapopo'
SAN JOSE, Antique (PNA) — The Antique Center for Protection and Development for Women and Children has served at least 40 clients since it started operating in March, 2010, according to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Lazaro G. Petinglay.
The Center, which is also called “Pagsapopo" (Antiqueño for “care”) was realized via a P2-million fund courtesy of Sen. Loren Legarda, with counterpart funds from the Antique provincial government and a 640-sqm lot donated by the Dept. of Education facilitated by Antique Governor Exequiel B. Javier.
Takbong Maharlika
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, (PIA) — Catbalogan police are preparing for the coming of runners from Laoag City in a run called “Takbong Maharlika Tungo sa Pagkakaisa.” Deputy Police Chief Alfredo Almencion said among the main runners are Ret. PCSupt Samson Tucay and Rev Fr. Carmelo Diola who are expected to arrive in Allen December 2.
The officer said they will ask folks from barangays along the way to run with the teams. “We also requested some physical fitness buffs in Catbalogan including the civic groups to run with us,” added Almencion.
