NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines (PIA) — Philippine Information Agency (PIA) director general, lawyer Jose Fabia, cited the lead role of the PIA in Region 6 in campus journalism which is aimed principally at creating a new breed of journalists in this part of the country.
Fabia addressed participants during the recent College Press Conference and Awards in Iloilo City, and likewise said media plays an important role in development through the dissemination of correct information and “this task begins during journalists’ campus writing years.” As journalists, Fabia urged journalism students and campus journalists to “continuously search for the truth, write sensible articles, and improve your craft.
DA fair
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary for Special Concerns Bernadette Romulo-Puyat opened the DA “Agri-Fair” last Dec. 8, Thursday at the provincial park here as part of the activities staged by Roxas City’s Sinadya sa Halaran (SSH) celebration.
The fair showcases agriculture and aqua-marine products from various participating local government units (LGU) in Capiz province. Capiz’s prime agricultural products are rice, corn, coconut, sugarcane, banana, and cut flower. Aside from being a surplus supplier of agricultural products, Capiz is also a major source of prawn, shrimp, oyster, angel wings, and milk fish, among other seafood products.
DTI training
NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — To enhance skills and capabilities in their office work assignments, employees of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)’s Biliran Provincial Office will go through a one-day Human Capital (HuCap) Development training.
Said training will be held at the DTI regional office in Pawing, Palo, Leyte Friday, December 9. Part of the activities is a review of accomplishments, activities, and programs of their organization in 2011 focused on the development and improvement of the lives of people in the provinces and in the entire nation. Also to be discussed will be plans, programs, and activities of DTI-Eastern Visayas in 2012.
BSP inauguration
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — Region 8 welcomed the addition of a new Tacloban City landmark as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas inaugurated its new state-of-the-art office building near the Tacloban airport Thursday, December 8.
The bank’s new office building is the seventh branch built using the new designs of BSP buildings. In the same event, the BSP also opened the Tacloban leg of its Economic and Financial Learning Program (BSP-EFLP) which started last Dec. 8 and will go on until Dec. 10. The BSP-EFLP consolidates the BSP’s outreach educational activities under a single flagship program.
Dog show
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Dumaguete city government is inviting dog owners in the city to join the City Veterinarian Office’s dog show on December 11 at the Hypermart in Brgy. Bagacay. Said show promotes the anti-rabies prevention and control campaign by the city and provincial governments to create a rabies-free zone here.
Prizes worth over P10,000 are offered for winning dogs and their owners in various categories, said City Veterinarian Dr. Ma. Lourdes Socorro who also explained that the dog show is intended to foster camaraderie among dog owners and lovers in the city while promoting responsible dog ownership under the Animal Welfare Act.
