CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines (PIA) — Thousands of preschoolers in Cebu’s 1,532 day care centers have benefited from educational tool kits provided by the Philippine Councilors’ League – Cebu Chapter.
Cebu provincial board member Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, PCL-Cebu Chapter Federation president, said the educational kits, worth some P2 million, contained story books, cassette players, reference books, educational toys, visual materials and 140 songs appropriate for pre-school children.
She said the materials can help prepare pre-schoolers for the Department of Education’s K+12 program to be implemented starting this June. Distribution of the educational tool kits began July, 2011.
Fortified rice
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The National Food Authority (NFA) in Iloilo is ready to distribute iron fortified rice to 180,355 day care children.
NFA Iloilo Asst. Manager Miguel Aguirre said the agency has fortified 5,863 bags of rice that will cover the initial 55 days supplemental feeding program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Aguirre said beneficiaries are children enrolled in the 5,448 day care centers in Iloilo province’s 133 municipalities of Iloilo province.
Accreditation hurdled
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — “So far, so good” was the feedback from the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP) delegation which conducted Level II Accreditation of Capiz State University (CapSU)-Roxas City main campus’ three curricular programs in November, 2011.
CapSU’s Bachelor of Industrial Technology (BIT), Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) courses were assessed by the evaluators. The university’s Roxas City’s main campus administrator Dr. Editha Alfon said the evaluators found the institution’s extension services and activities impressive, citing the activities of the Mobile Technology School (MTS).
Zero firing
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — No case of indiscriminate firing or fire incident was recorded in Antique province during the New Year celebration.
The Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) said both Christmas and New Year’s celebrations in the province were “generally peaceful,” with only three reported cases of firecracker incidents, that is, two in the town of Hamtic and one in Pandan municipality.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) in the province also attributed the peaceful situation to the massive information campaign dubbed Action Paputok Injury Reduction (APIR) by health authorities.
Doors open
KABANKALAN CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Bacolod City Chapter, will open a branch in Kabankalan City to maximize its delivery of basic services in the southern part of Negros Occidental.
Said PRC branch in Kabankalan City will upgrade the capability of the organization in meeting the needs of residents in the province’s fifth and sixth districts.
The PRC branch will also help promote major Red Cross services accessible to the city and neighboring communities, as well as identify and develop priority areas, maximize chapter’s fund through corporate donation and membership campaign, and promote community-based volunteerism.
