DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Philippines (PIA) — Sitio Talirokon in Brgy. Enrique Villanueva, Sibulan was identified by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) as one of the communities proposed to be a beneficiary of the Peace and Development Community (PDC) livelihood and development projects in Negros island an intensive profiling conducted last year.
The sitio, with some 57 families, is 50 kilometers from Sibulan town proper. A total of P24 million has been allocated for community development and livelihood projects from the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (Peaceful and Resilient Communities) which covers development interventions to be implemented in the identified communities.
Housing MOA
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — Government employees in Aklan renting apartments and other dwellings will soon have houses of their own through the Local Government Unit (LGU) Housing Program that has formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) by Vice President Jejomar Binay who is also Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chairperson, several Aklan mayors, and Chief Executive Officer of Pag-IBIG Fund, Atty. Darlene Marie B. Berberabe. The MOA signing was held January 13 at the Kalibo Municipal Building. Binay was in Aklan January 13 to attend Kalibo’s Sto. Niño Ati-atihan Festival.
Sinulog successful
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the 32nd 2012 Sinulog Grand Parade last Sunday was “extremely successful,” and expressed gratitude to the Holy Child Jesus Sto. Niño for the nice weather during the Mardi Gras celebration.
Despite rainy weather forecasts, only a slight drizzle fell on the city Sunday afternoon. Rama acknowledged efforts of the Sinulog Foundation, Inc., the Philippine National Police, AFP-Central Command and various schools and universities and other government agencies and the private sector. Only 12 snatching incidents were recorded throughout the entire Sinulog festivities.
Scout Jamboree
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — The Samar Boy Scouts Jamboree held a three-day jamboree in Paranas town focused on disaster preparedness. Scouters were taught survival training, rappelling in the hill near the camping area, and joined in other social activities.
They were also given lectures on disaster preparedness, that is, what to do during typhoons, floods, fire, and other natural disasters, and took part in disaster preparedness drills. “Disaster preparedness should be taught Boy Scouts even as young as those in the elementary grades because disaster can strike anytime,” said Marvin Anonuevo, a teacher-cum Scout trainer.

BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar (PIA) — Police operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Provincial Command and the Borongan City Police Station arrested four suspected drug traffickers in a nearby barangay last Sunday.
Led by PCI Alladin Dingal, the policemen collared suspected drug traffickers which PCI Edwin Barbosa of the PNP Provincial Command reported were riding tandem in plate-less TMX motorcycles on the highway near the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) in Brgy. Maypangdan this city, at past 12 noon.
