LA CARLOTA CITY, Negros Occ. PIA6) — A tripartite agreement has paved the way for the construction of a P6-million tissue culture laboratory at the 288-hectare property of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) College of Agriculture Research and Training Station in La Granja, La Carlota City.
The project aims to collect varieties of disease-free and climate change resilient high value crops to be made available to farmers. The facility is part of the Sustainable Agri-Livestock Technology (SALT)-Training and Extension Program, a partnership between the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, UP Los Baños and the UPLB Alumni Foundation in Negros Occidental (UPLBAFNO).
Valladolid Projects
VALLADOLID, Negros Occ. (PIA) — Valladolid town recently received checks worth P3.350 million from the provincial government to fund projects in its barangays. Of the amount, P2 million will be allotted for the Alijis-Bayabas-Pacol Farm-to-Market Road rehabilitation project; P600,000 barangay streetlights in Brgys. Pacol, Paloma, Central Tabao, and Ayungon; P150,000 for the renovation of the health center in Brgy. Batuan and P150,000 for the expansion of the barangay hall in Brgy. Tabao Proper.
Also, the Brgy. Guintorilan public plaza will be rehabilitated at the cost of P150,000 while another P150,000 is earmarked for the renovation of health center in Brgy. Bayabas and the same amount will go to the renovation of the Brgy. Lacaron barangay hall.
Bite Treatment
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Department of Health (DOH) will install four more animal bite treatment centers in Central Visayas. DOH-7 Regional Rabies Coordinator Jocelyn Tabotabo said there are already 25 animal bite treatment centers in the region.
The additional four will be installed on Camotes Island and Bogo City in Cebu, Candijay, Bohol, and another in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental. In a recent forum with information officers here, Tabotabo urged victims of animal bites to immediately go to a treatment center in order to avail of the anti-rabies vaccination after they clean their bite wounds with soap and water to wash out the virus transmitted by the animal through its saliva.

TACLOBAN CITY Leyte (PIA) — Department of Health (DoH) Secretary Enrique Ona disclosed recently that there is a plan to transfer the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center into a bigger location and develop it into a modern, state-of-the-art medical center.
Ona said the plan is part of the DOH’s policy to provide a better and more efficient health service for the public. “We have a catchment population of about 4 million in the region. In any language, the region no longer needs an ordinary hospital.
Capiz Center
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The new Capiz Government and Business Center (CGBC) will officially open for business in April, in time with the 111th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Capiz civil government on April 13.
Provincial Administrator lawyer Jose O. Villanueva said many national government agencies (NGA) and businesses have reserved office and commercial spaces in the three-story building. The 3,400-sqm GBC, located in a corner of San Roque Extension and Fuentes Drive, has 104 rooms for rent.
The center’s ground and second floors are for business–related activities while all 23 rooms on the third floor are reserved for government offices.
