ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — Iloilo and Guimaras provincial and municipal officials led by Governors Arthur Defensor Sr. and Felipe Hilan Nava of Iloilo and Guimaras respectively are in Toronto Canada for a Learning Exchange on Sustainable Bio-regional Planning. Hosted by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI), with support from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the exchange visit aims to pursue regional collaboration in improving natural resource and disaster management while supporting economic development of communities. Participants will be provided with tools and approaches to help finalize the Tigum-Aganan State Watershed Report Card, develop a roadmap for the updating of the Tigum-Aganan Watershed Management Plan, and begin working on coastal resource management within their coverage.

BOGO CITY, Cebu — Pag IBIG Fund Cebu North Branch has opened its new Bogo Service Center in Bogo City, Cebu, which is 105 kilometers away from its mother branch, the Pag IBIG Fund Cebu North, bringing Pag-IBIG Fund’s services closer to its members in this area. On opening day, Pag IBIG Bogo served a total 25 clients on services including contributions printout, multi-purpose loans, membership verification, among others. “We thank the Bogo City Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr. for being accommodating,” Pag-IBIG Cebu North branch manager Jovelita V. ANTI-DENGUE DRIVE
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo — Vice President Jejomar Binay, with his Alpha Phi Omega fraternity brothers here conducted medical missions in Iloilo City villages where high incidence of led dengue hemorrhagic fever has been noted. Misting operations where held in Bolilao, Mandurriao and Calumpang, Molo in Iloilo City to get rid of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. Some 377 cases of dengue with nine deaths, or a 165 percent increase over last year were recorded by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office January to June 2, 2012. Binay also visited Iloilo and Passi cities, and the towns of Barotac Nuevo, Dueñas and Dingle. (Tara Yap)

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA6) — A rehabilitated senior citizens’ building and Farmers’ Training Center (FTC) in Dao, Capiz were inaugurated by Vice President Jejomar C. Binay recently who helped the local government unit here repair the building damaged over time. Binay also gave R500,000 to Dumalag and Cuartero towns during a fellowship night in a local hotel here for the municipalities of Dumalag and Cuartero during a dinner and fellowship night last June 8 at the Kapis Mansion Hotel here.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) has four new civil engineers, namely, Ernie Lumayo Diputado of Sibulan town, Kristoffer Lyle Pestaño Gantalao of Dumaguete City, Celestinaonte Ojano of Municipality of Valencia town, and Lemalyn Dimagnaong Ragasa of Lazi, Siquijor. The four civil engineering graduates passed the Civil Engineeer Licensure examination last May 6-7 in Cebu City this year.
