MANDAUE CITY (PNA) – The city government here will honor a former school teacher who will turn 100 on June 30, with the Centenary Senior Citizen Award on Monday. The city will also give Emiliana Sanchez Cabrera her P5,000 in October, during the culmination activity of the Senior Citizens Month. Cabrera, who taught at the Mabolo Elementary School in Cebu City, retired as a teacher in 1972. Having no husband and children, she lives with her niece and nephew in a century-old house in Barangay Guizo, this city. During her younger days, she actively participated in the activities of the St. Joseph Parish.
WATER SYSTEM
ORMOC CITY (PNA) – The municipality of Isabel, some 47 kilometers west of this city, will soon have its own water supply, according to Mayor Saturnino Medina Jr. He said the local government had borrowed P105 million for the project, which would source water from Mount Banahaw in Barangay Consolacion. At present, the town is dependent on Lide Management Corporation (LMC) for its water supply. LMC is the administrator of Leyte Industrial Development Estate (LMC) and looks after the needs of its locators including water.
EDUCATION FUND
CEBU CITY (PNA) – The Local School Board (LSB) here is seeking an approval from the Office of the President to use P73 million from its Special Education Fund (SEF) in purchasing school supplies and buses for public schools in the city. City Councilor Jose Daluz III said they will buy the school supplies and buses while simultaneously writing a letter to the Office of the President to allow the purchase. The board hopes that City Mayor Michael Rama will be able to send the letter to President Aquino as early as next week, for the city to be allowed to buy the school supplies and buses under the SEF, he said.
WORKERS WEEK
MAASIN CITY (PIA) – The 200 active day-care workers in Southern Leyte marked the celebration of Day-Care Workers Week with a series of activities this year. “The lined-up activities were anchored on the theme ‘Kaagapay ng Pamilya at Pamahalaan sa pagtutupad ng ECCD program,’” Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office social welfare senior officer Amelia Malazarte disclosed. The celebration was held from June 1 to 7, but the activities in Southern Leyte went beyond those dates, Malazarte said. Among the activities conducted were lectures on the seven developmental domains of the children checklist, search for Day-Care Worker Queen, and quarterly meeting.
CASH GRANTS
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) – A total of P2,022,700 cash grants for 1,492 beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) was released recently by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) with the assistance of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO). The amount was allotted to the 4Ps beneficiaries in the towns of Buruanga, Makato, Tangalan, Ibajay, Nabas, Madalag, Malinao, Libacao, and Balete in Aklan. Of the nine towns, Ibajay had the biggest number of beneficiaries with 904 getting a total of P915,000 cash grants, followed by Libacao, which had 239 beneficiaries and P556,700 cash grants, and Madalag, with 183 beneficiaries and P123,800 cash grants.
