ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is encouraging small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) to join the GlobalPack International Conference to be held here July 25-27. DOST Regional Director Rowen Gelonga said through the conference, SMEs could learn much on improving their micro-enterprises from international experts on packaging who will share their knowledge in packaging, including World Packing Organization CEO Thomas Schneider who will talk on how packaging contributes substantially to profitability. Pre-conference will be at the Central Philippines University on July 25; conference proper will be held at the Sarabia Manor July 26-27.
STUDY GROUP
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 plans to form a technical working group that will study the impact of the Helmet Law. “We will first form a technical working group and see what measures could be recommended on helmet specifications to curb activities of motorcycle-riding criminals. The group’s recommendations will be submitted to Camp Crame for action,” said S/Supt. Orlando Ualat, chief of the PRO 7 Regional Directorial Staff during a meeting with local media recently. To be implemented August 1, Republic Act 10054 or the Helmet Act will strictly require motorcycle drivers and their passenger to wear standard protective gear which the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said should bear the import commodity clearance (ICC) or PS (Philippine Standards) mark.
E-BLOTTER SYSTEM
MARIA, Siquijor (PIA) — The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Siquijor province has launched the electronic blotter system, which is a faster and reliable mode of transmitting crime information. Six new computer sets were specially designed for the e-blotter system. Each town in the province will have one of the new computers programmed for the system, and all these towns have to be internet-connnected to access the new system. The system, said PNP provincial director Ernesto F. Agas, “is the fastest and most efficient means of mapping out crimes,” said Provincial Director Ernesto F. Agas in the same report.
GUIMARAS ECO-BAZAAR
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The ongoing 2012 Guimaras Eco Bazaar trade fair is offering Guimaras-made products including kasoy nuts and bars; camote and banana chips; pineapple, squash, and calamansi-based products; pies, tarts, polvoron, and cookies using Guimaras fruits and nuts, salt and crafts like hand woven pandan and buri bags, coco shell and coco coir products, souvenir items and accessories. Guimaras’ famed mangoes and by-products like dried mangoes and mango jams are also available.
WAGE CONSULTATIONS
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte (PIA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB), initiated recently a wage issue consultation with 30 private companies in Southern Leyte at the Maasin Country Lodge. DOLE regional director Exequiel Sarcauga said the wage consultation is to find out if there is really a need to restructure wages in the region.
