BALAMBAN, Ceb — To mark the 24th anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) and the 3rd year of CARPER law, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Cebu recently distributed Certificate of Land Ownership Awards (CLOAs) to the 68 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in this town. The landholdings placed under CARP were previously owned by Irenea Mendoza, Marcelino Bendebel, Norma Tan, Francisco Alonso, and Gregorio Trocio covering a total of 71.7926 hectares situated in barangay Biasong, Vito and Luca. Moreover, 11 ARBs from a nearby town Asturias also received their CLOAs which covered a total area of 25 hectares. The awarded land was previously owned by Ananias Gilay in Bago, Asturias. Earlier, 111 hectares of agricultural lands were distributed to 217 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in the towns of Argao and Dalaguete. The covered landholdings were placed under CARP in a Voluntary Offer to Sale (VOS) scheme from Florentino Sejismundo. (Phoebe Indino)

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo — Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo City lauded the policemen who led the interception of Php 700,000 worth of marijuana. Mabilog will honor on Monday’s flag ceremony members of the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) for arresting two drug pushers transporting 73 kilos of marijuana last July 13. Sr. Supt. Marietto Valerio, ICPO chief, said the arrest of Reymos John Acepcion and Michael Segutier of Molo district was a result of an intelligence report since May 2012. Supt. Noel Lamsis, who led the team, said the marijuana, which were formed in 1-kilo bricks, were sealed in three sacks. ICPO will give the arresting officers led by Lamsis awards and cash money. School Repair
ILOILO CITY (PNA) — The repair of some elementary schools here, construction of school buildings and provision of physical facilities, school supplies and other social services will start soon after the city government received Php 1 million in a special allotment release order from the Department of Budget and Management. The amount was drawn from Sen. Franklin M. Drilon’s priority development assistance fund.

CATBALOGAN City, Samar (PIA) — The Department of Education (DepEd) here is urging adults and out-of-school youth (OSY) to take advantage of the open high school program being offered by the Calbayog City National High School. The open high school program of DepEd-Calbayog City Division has helped a number of working students and OSYs stay in school. Education Program Supervisor Avelina Tupa said this is the third year the program is being implemented.
Rights Training
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — Ninety-five newly recruited army candidates have started training to become advocates of human rights and agents of peace and development. Last July 9, the recruits took their oath and joined the ranks of the Philippine Army as trainees or candidate soldiers (CS) of the 8th Infantry (Storm troopers) division. Col. Virgilio M. Espineli, assistant division commander of 8th ID, graced the occasion which was attended by the candidate soldiers’ families, officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees of the command.
