PALO, Leyte – The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas celebrated its 111th service anniversary last August 16, with the theme: “Police nyo po sa tuwid na daan, serbisyong may pagkukusa, maasahan.” Chief Supt. Elmer Soria, PNP regional office 8 director, based here, said the highlight of the affair was the awarding of the deserving PNP-8 personnel, units and government agencies who in one way or another helped PNP-8 achieve its mission to fight criminality and maintain peace and order in the region. LAND EXCHANGE
CEBU CITY (PNA) – Urban poor families in Cebu City are supporting the revival of the land exchange negotiations between Cebu City and Capitol to solve the problem of some 5,000 families living in province-owned lots in the city. They told the City Council in a special session at Barangay Luz that they prefer the land swap and not the option where they have to buy the lots they are occupying. Cebu Provincial Ordinance 93-1 offers families living on Capitol-owned lots within Cebu City to buy the land they are occupying. But the lot occupants said they cannot afford the price of the Capitol lots, located mostly in the urban centers. Luz Barangay Councilor Michael “Boy” Guerra, president of the 93-1 Movement, said the province offered the lots in Barangay Busay to the urban poor families at R3,300 per square meter.
GARCIA REACTION
CEBU CITY – The camp of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia announced that the lady governor will respect the hold departure order of the Sandiganbayan, although her lawyer said the order was expected. Garcia's daughter and legal counsel Christina Garcia-Frasco told Capitol reporters that the issuance of the travel ban was a matter of course with the filing of the information against her client. She said the move was a standard operating procedure and they had expected such and she stressed that the order does not affect the merits of the governor’s defense. (Mars W. Mosqueda Jr.)
