TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 8 and the local government unit (LGU) of Libagon in Southern Leyte formally turned over NegoKarts to 14 women beneficiaries during the closing program of the Social Preparation Seminar and Entrepreneurship Appreciation Course on August 22 at Libagon Municipal Hall. DOLE 8 regional director Exequiel R. Sarcauga said DOLE had released to the Libagon LGU R179,600 for the project, comprised of purpose-built carts, raw materials and other ingredients for the identified food vendors. “This concretizes what President (Benigno S.) Aquino III wants to achieve in terms of inclusive growth- that whatever gains this government will have, he wants to ensure that the people of Libagon, Southern Leyte are part of it,” Sarcauga stressed.
PNEUMONIA ALERT
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — Pneumonia has consistently remained the number one cause of death in Aklan for five years now, from 2007 to 2011, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO) whose records show a rising number of pneumonia deaths over the years, with 457 in 2007; 583 in 2008; 609 in 2009; 613 in 2010 and 656 in 2011. Other causes of death in said period cardio-vascular accidents (CVA), myocardiac imfarction; cancer, hypertension, accidents, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart diseases, sepsis, and hypovolemic shock.

ROXASCITY, Capiz (PIA6) — Capiz police officials are expressing support for newly installed Philippine National Police (PNP) regional director Agrimero Cruz Jr.’s priority thrusts. Capiz Police provincial director Domingo Cabillan said he supports the three-point agenda of the new PNP director, namely the zero tolerance to criminality, strict implementation of Integrated Transformation Program and Performance Governance System, and enhancement of PNP morale and welfare. He also assured Cruz that the PNP officers and personnel in Capiz will strictly abide by the mandate of the new director.
RELIEF ACTION
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Thousands of relief goods and over R80,000 in cash were collected by Regional Development Council (RDC)- 7’s Task Force (TF) Tabang for Habagat victims in Luzon and more pledges are still incoming. In a recent RDC-7 meeting, TF Tabang members gave a report on efforts to gather donations for thousands of flood victims now housed in evacuation centers in Luzon. The Cebu provincial government contributed two 20-footer container vans of relief items shipped out via Phil Span Asia Carrier (PSAC) to Laguna province.
ALANGALANG FIRETRUCK
ALANGALANG, Leyte (PIA) — The Korea Federation of Fire Association (KFFA) will turnover to the local government of Alangalang, Leyte a newly refurbished fire truck worth R13 million today, August 30 at the Central Office of the Bureau of Fire Protection. The donation boosts Alangalang’s fire fighting capability as it only has one fire truck which town Mayor Loretto Yu described as “old.” Yu said the new fire truck is for the Sustainable Use and Protection of Philippine Peatlands Project under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
