DUMAGUETE CITY (PIA) — The Bureau of Fishery and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Negros Oriental Field Office is set to celebrate its 49th Fish Conservation Week from October 15 to 19 to highlight the importance of preserving and protecting marine resources. Provincial Fishery Officer Florencia Mepana requests the local government of Dumaguete City to participate in the activity during the opening on October 15 at the BFAR Office in sitio Canday-ong in Barangay Calindagan. City Administrator and also the City Agriculturist William Ablong tasked the office of the Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) to hold coastal clean-up drive in the coastal areas in barangay Calindagan.
KIDS CAMPAIGN
CATARMAN, Northern Samar (PIA) — A campaign for children, dubbed “Because I Am A Girl,” was launched in Catarman, Northern Samar last October 11 as part of the Children’s Month's celebration observed every month of October. The launching was in line with the first International Day of the Girl based on United Nations declaration, according to Mike Reynaldo, Northern Samar program unit manager of Plan Philippines. Plan Philippines organized the activity, in coordination with the Provincial Technical Working Group composed of line agencies of the government and non-government organizations of the province.
LICENSE PLATES
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will conduct a series of consultations in Eastern Visayas on the planned standardization of license plates for public and private motor vehicles. This is part of the series of consultations nationwide to get the public’s pulse on the proposal, LTO Region 8 Director Camilo Guarin told the Philippine Information Agency. The public consultations in Eastern Visayas will start in Catbalogan City, Samar on October 15. The venue is at the Redaja Hall of the DepEd Catbalogan City Division Office. Director Guarin said that on October 17, public consultations will be conducted at the Ritz Tower de Leyte in Tacloban City while on October 18, another public consultations will be conducted in Ormoc City.
REGISTRATION
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The National Statistics Office-8 is now conducting registration for the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) Batch 2, covering the remaining provinces of Leyte, Biliran, and Southern Leyte. Regional Director Raul F. Dones said this undertaking, which started September 17 and will end on November 7, aims to create a database or master list of farmers, farm laborers, and fishers that will provide basic data for use in national or sub-national planning on agriculture and fisheries.
INSPECTION
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA6) — The Department of Trade and Industry has already inspected 6,105 helmets here. The inspection of motorcycle helmets, which started July of this year, is in connection with the implementation of Republic Act 10054 that mandates all motorcycle riders to wear standard protective helmets to protect them from fatal road accidents. With less than four months to the December 31, 2012 helmet inspection deadline, DTI-Aklan Provincial Director Diosdado P. Cadena Jr. again urged Aklan residents to have their helmets inspected.
