ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — Iloilo City will be among the eight testing centers outside Manila for the Immigration Officer Examination of the Bureau of Immigration today, October 24. The qualifying examination will be held simultaneously nationwide 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Here, some 100 applicants are expected to take the exam which will be administered at the John B. Lacson Maritime University in Molo, Iloilo City. Other provincial testing centers are Cagayan de Oro, Cebu City, Tarlac City, Baguio City, Naga City, Tuguegarao and Batangas, Regala said.
OPLAN KALULUWA
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Philippine National Police-Regional Office 8 has reactivated “Oplan Kaluluwa,” putting the police here on full alert to provide maximum security coverage and public safety to motorists and commuters. The reactivation follows Police Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome’s call to prepare security plans for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. Police Chief Supt. Elmer R. Soria, PNP-8 director, said this is standard operating procedure to provide security assistance along highways and major thoroughfares and traffic management along routes leading to cemeteries and other places of convergence.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Negros Oriental State University (Norsu) received P29.9 million from its partners and several stakeholders for the implementation of the university’s development projects. Highest donor is the Commission on Higher Education which gave P15 million, P8 million for business process outsourcing and P7 million for the Training Center for Industrial Electronics of the College of Industrial Technology. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources also gave P3.5 million for Norsu’s forestry development project in Brgy. Dauis, Bais City, while the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources gave P2.8 million for Norsu’s Bais City Campus’ fishery development project.
TRUCKS BAN
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PNA) — The Cebu City Council has passed an ordinance banning vehicles carrying toxic substances and non-motorized vehicles from passing through the Cebu South Road Properties (CSRP) tunnel. The tunnel is under Plaza Independencia near the Cebu port area and connects S. Osmena St. to the CSRP. The ordinance authored by Cebu City Councilor Roberto Cabarubias bans non-motorized vehicles, vehicles carrying destructive and toxic substances and pedestrians from using the tunnel. However, the ordinance says that ”The Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) board may, from time to time, provide exceptions for a limited period to address an emergency situation or when necessary for the safety and welfare of the public.”
ASSISTANCE CENTER
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in Western Visayas is operating a One Stop Public Assistance Center (Ospac) where the public can refer their complaints or inquiries on telecom service provider services. Complaints on vanishing cell phone loads, text scams and other malpractices by companies, will be acted upon. Through the Ospac, the office also accommodates cases of contested billings. Complaints or queries which cannot be dealt with effectively by the Center will be forwarded to companies concerned.
