DUMAGUETE CITY (PNA) – This city is eyeing the construction of a cooperative hospital in a few months to cater to primary and secondary patients and thus, help decongest the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) owned and operated by the province of Negros Oriental. City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said the Negros Oriental Hospital and Health Services Cooperative is renting a place in this city, and it is about time for them to have their own building. Sagarbarria has offered the area where the puericulture building is situated as the site of the two-storey, 40-bed Cooperative Hospital which costs P6 million.
HOUSING PROGRAM
DUMAGUETE CITY (PNA) – City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said the National Housing Authority (NHA) in Manila has assured him of the full payment for the land where low-cost housing for victims of “Sendong” will rise in Barangay Banilad. The mayor said compliance of requirements is being fast-tracked so construction can immediately begin, and that before the year ends or on Christmas day, flood victims will have decent homes they can call their own. Already, the NHA had turned over P6 million to the family of Soledad Tale, representing 30 percent of the total amount as advance payment of the 3.7-hectare lot where 397 units will be constructed.
DAY-CARE SEMINAR
ILOILO CITY (PNA) – At least 1,300 selected day-care workers in Western Visayas are attending a two-day seminar on positive lifestyle and stress management that kicked off Thursday at Punta Villa Resort here. Alfredo Villanueva, head of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWDO), said that the seminar is part of the regional convention facilitated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Day-Care Workers Regional Federation. He said that the training aims to help the day-care workers cope with the hassles and stress of their job.
FACILITY UPGRADE
ILOILO CITY (PNA) – The provincial government of Iloilo will discuss the proposed upgrading of three district hospitals in Iloilo during the slated visit of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) representatives from November 10 to 13. KOICA will finance the upgrading program under the ABC Hospital Enhancement Program to the tune of $8 million. These hospitals are situated in Aleosan, Balasan, and Calinog areas. Governor Arthur Defensor earlier sought assistance from the ambassador of Korea on its health programs including the upgrading of health facilities in the province.
MARKETING PLAN
CEBU CITY (PNA) – An official of the Cebu Investment Promotions Center (CIPC) said they are ready to present its marketing plan for the Cebu City-owned South Road Properties (SRP). CIPC managing director Joel Mari Yu said the plan has been ready for months. “As long as the mayor says go. But we don’t have data on the financing and maintenance, and the mayor (Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama) does not want incomplete data,” Yu said. He said the city government still needs to collate data on the finances of the SRP and other documents. More than a year ago, Rama raised the need to produce a comprehensive presentation of the SRP.
