CEBU CITY —Work and family balance lies at the core of the ability of the family to provide economical and emotional support for its members, thus the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 recently conducted a special seminar on Strengthening Family Relationship to some 46 married employees with their spouses here. Social Worker Rosemarie Salazar, Focal Person on DSWD’s Women’s Welfare Program during the seminar, said the government has been exerting efforts to find family-friendly strategies in facilitating work-family balance which is a key role in supporting parents to raise the next generation of children and ensure harmonious family relations. Boracay Island, Aklan (PNA) — "Gangnam Style" fever has infected Boracay as Korean tourists continue to be the top foreign visitors to this resort island, a tourism official here said on Wednesday. Residents, tourism stakeholders, and front liners in this resort island were urged to learn and appreciate the culture and dialect of South Koreans in a bid to attract more visitors from that country."Gangnam Style" is the iconic song of South Korean singer and rapper Park Jae Sang more popularly known as Psy which depicts the lifestyle of people living in Seoul's most posh district. The song's music video has become the most viewed on YouTube with 824 million hits since it was released earlier this year.

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo —The 23rd Conference on West Visayan History and Culture tackled West Visayan cultural identity. Prof. Melanie J. Padilla, director of Center for West Visayan Studies (CWVS) of UP Visayas, said this year’s conference focused on the theme of “Finding Heritage: Continuing the Search for the West Visayan Cultural Identity.” Scholarly papers presented tackled the artistic traditions including visual, culinary, crafts, performing arts, cultural practices, and oral traditions found in the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros. NEGROS VOTERS
DUMAGUETE CITY(PNA) — The total number of registered voters in Negros Oriental for the May 13, 2012 elections has increased by at least 5 percent compared to those registered in 2009, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Eddie Aba said."There is an estimated 728,074 registered voters in Negros Oriental as of last count following the approval by the Election Registration Board (ERB). This was about 5 percent or 48,491 over the 679,583 registered voters in 2009," Aba said. However, Aba said that the final list of registered voters in Negros Oriental will be made available next week after his staff has finished “cleansing” the list of double registrants.
YULE CONTEST
CEBU CITY (PNA) — The “Pasko sa V. Rama,” a Christmas decoration contest among residents of V. Rama Ave., Cebu City, will push through this year even if the Cebu City Council did not approve the P713,450 budget for the event. The 21 clusters from Barangays San Nicolas, Calamba and Guadalupe vowed to construct belens or nativity scenes all over V. Rama St., just as they did for 17 years. Funds for the Pasko sa V. Rama 2012 will be taken from sponsors.
