ISSUE SETTLED
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo — The misunderstanding on the issuance of media IDs for the 2013 Dinagyang Festival has been settled. Iloilo Provincial Administrator Raul Banias stepped in to settle the dispute between Iloilo Provincial Capitol and the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI). Banias clarified that IDs issued by IDFI’s Publicity and Media Relations Group will be honored at Stage 2, the performance area adjacent to the old Provincial Capitol. Nereo Lujan, public information chief of the provincial government, earlier said it will not honor IDs issued by IDFI and there will be separate IDs. (Tara Yap)
TOP JOURNALISTS
DUMAGUETE CITY — The deadline for the nomination of the annual search for outstanding journalists in the country was extended until February. The Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MFI) has announced the extension of the deadline for the submission of Journalist of the Year (JOY) from January 30 to February 28. The search, which started in October last year, is extended for one month to give ample time for those who still wanted to submit nominations. The contest will pick as winners, three practicing journalists from all television, radio and print broadcast outlets and even online media, whose work performance had contributed to the development of the nation. The winning three Journalists of the Year will all receive a cash prize of P300,000 each. (PIA)
BIBLICAL WAY
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte — The Southern Leyte Provincial Jail (SLPJ) management embarks on reforming prison boarders with Bible-sharing activities. Assistant Provincial Warden (APW) Joselito Magallanes said that the organization have developed home-grown Bible readers and sharers from among the boarders in the provincial jail. The inmates take turns to lead in the Bible-reading and discussions once every week while reflecting on the teachings of Christ. The activity obviously has touched most of the lives of the prison boarders where he noted that they have become more restrained and calmed in treating each other inside the prison cells, he noted. YOUTH CONGRESS
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — Some 55 to 60 student youth are expected to participate in a youth congress in November this year to be held in Antipolo City. The Energy Development Corporation based in Ormoc City is organizing a youth congress aimed to inspire and encourage the youth to become an environment warrior to protect nature. Invited schools in Eastern Visayas include the University of the Philippine Eastern Visayas Tacloban Campus, Eastern Visayas State University, Visayas State University and universities in the Samar provinces. BRIDGE PROJECT
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Southern Leyte Engineering District (SLED) with Southern Leyte Representative Roger G. Mercado led the recent inauguration of Senator Ruperto K. Kangleon Bridge in Macrohon, Southern Leyte. “I already got the approval from the local barangay officials of San Roque, Macrohon where the P19 M worth concrete bridge was constructed, to name the newly built bridge as Senator Ruperto K. Kangleon Bridge. This is in memory of the national hero who emanates from the same town,” Representative Roger Mercado said during the inauguration ceremony held last January 22. (PIA)
